Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Conduct comprehensive initial consultations and fitness assessments to establish client goals, baseline metrics, and health history.
  • Design and implement scientifically-sound, individualized fitness programs tailored to client objectives, such as weight loss, muscle gain, improved athletic performance, or general health.
  • Instruct and demonstrate proper form and technique for a wide range of exercises, including strength training, cardiovascular, and flexibility movements, to ensure client safety and maximize results.
  • Provide dynamic, high-energy one-on-one and small group training sessions that are both challenging and enjoyable for clients.
  • Continuously monitor, track, and analyze client progress, providing regular feedback and making necessary adjustments to their workout plans to overcome plateaus and drive continued improvement.
  • Educate clients on the principles of healthy nutrition, hydration, and lifestyle habits that complement their fitness regimen.
  • Act as a primary source of motivation and encouragement, celebrating client achievements and providing support through challenges to foster long-term adherence.
  • Build and maintain strong, professional relationships with clients, fostering a sense of trust and partnership to enhance retention and satisfaction.
  • Maintain meticulous and confidential records of client sessions, progress notes, and program details using our client management software.
  • Lead engaging, safe, and well-structured group fitness classes, catering to various fitness levels within the same session.
  • Develop specialized training plans for clients with specific needs or medical considerations, such as post-rehabilitation recovery, pre/post-natal fitness, or senior wellness, often in collaboration with healthcare providers.
  • Proactively stay current with the latest fitness industry trends, research, and continuing education to provide clients with the most up-to-date and effective training methods.
  • Help clients set realistic, measurable, and achievable short-term and long-term goals, breaking them down into actionable steps.
  • Enforce all gym policies and safety protocols to create a secure and welcoming environment for all members and staff.
  • Actively generate new client leads through member interactions, floor presence, and promotional events, contributing to personal and facility-wide revenue goals.

Secondary Functions

  • Assist with general gym floor supervision, re-racking weights, and ensuring the fitness area remains clean, organized, and safe.
  • Participate actively in community outreach, workshops, and marketing events to promote the gym's services and personal training programs.
  • Manage your personal training schedule, client bookings, and billing processes accurately and efficiently.
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team, including other coaches, nutritionists, and physical therapists, to provide a comprehensive wellness solution for clients.
  • Attend mandatory staff meetings, training sessions, and professional development workshops to enhance skills and contribute to team growth.
  • Contribute to the creation of digital content, such as social media posts, blog articles, or workout videos, to engage the wider gym community.
  • Support new member orientations by providing tours and demonstrating proper use of cardio and strength equipment.

Required Skills & Competencies

Hard Skills (Technical)

  • Nationally Recognized Personal Training Certification: Must hold a current certification from a reputable organization (e.g., NASM, ACE, ACSM, NSCA).
  • CPR/AED and First Aid Certification: Current and valid certification is mandatory.
  • Fitness Assessment Proficiency: Skilled in conducting various assessments, including body composition analysis, cardiovascular testing, and functional movement screens (FMS).
  • Exercise Physiology & Anatomy: Deep, practical knowledge of human anatomy, kinesiology, biomechanics, and exercise physiology.
  • Program Design Expertise: Proven ability to create customized, periodized training programs for a diverse clientele with varying goals and fitness levels.
  • Equipment Versatility: Proficient in the safe and effective use of a wide array of fitness equipment, including free weights, selectorized machines, cable systems, and functional training tools (kettlebells, TRX, etc.).

Education & Experience

Educational Background

Minimum Education:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Current, accredited Personal Training Certification

Preferred Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree

Experience Requirements

Typical Experience Range: 1-3 years of demonstrated experience in a personal training or fitness coaching role.
