Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Conduct comprehensive initial fitness consultations and health assessments to accurately evaluate a client's physical condition, health history, movement quality, and personal wellness goals.
- Design and prescribe safe, effective, and highly personalized exercise programs based on individual client needs, goals, abilities, and evidence-based fitness principles.
- Instruct, demonstrate, and cue proper form and technique for a wide range of exercises, including resistance training, cardiovascular activities, and flexibility, to ensure client safety and maximize results.
- Actively monitor, track, and document client progress through regular check-ins, performance metrics, and periodic reassessments, making strategic adjustments to their programs to overcome plateaus and ensure continuous improvement.
- Provide foundational nutritional guidance and lifestyle coaching in alignment with client goals and within the scope of certification to support a holistic approach to health and wellness.
- Motivate and inspire clients to maintain commitment to their fitness programs through positive reinforcement, goal setting, and consistent communication.
- Educate members on the fitness floor about the benefits of personal training, offering assistance, spot-checks, and form correction to build rapport and establish authority.
- Develop and maintain strong, lasting relationships with clients to foster a high rate of retention and encourage client referrals.
- Deliver an exceptional and premium customer service experience during every interaction, from the initial consultation to each training session.
- Stay current with the latest fitness industry trends, research, and technologies to continuously enhance service offerings and professional knowledge.
- Lead new member orientation sessions, guiding them through the facility and explaining how to use equipment safely and effectively.
- Proactively engage with members on the gym floor to answer questions, build community, and identify potential personal training clients.
Secondary Functions
- Proactively generate leads and drive personal training sales by engaging with members, conducting fitness seminars, and executing prospecting strategies.
- Achieve or exceed monthly and quarterly sales quotas for personal training packages and other fitness-related services.
- Conduct energetic and informative tours for prospective members, effectively showcasing the club's features and communicating the value of our fitness programs.
- Maintain meticulous and confidential client records, including assessment data, program details, session logs, and progress reports, using designated CRM or fitness software.
- Collaborate effectively with the entire gym team, including membership advisors and group fitness instructors, to create a cohesive and supportive environment for all members.
- Participate actively in team meetings, workshops, and continuing education opportunities to contribute to personal and team growth.
- Assist in maintaining a clean, safe, and organized fitness floor, including re-racking weights and promptly reporting any equipment malfunctions to management.
- Manage your schedule efficiently to maximize availability for client sessions, consultations, and prospecting activities.
Required Skills & Competencies
Hard Skills (Technical)
- Nationally Recognized Personal Training Certification: Must hold a current certification from an accredited organization (e.g., NASM, ACE, ACSM, NSCA).
- CPR/AED and First Aid Certification: Must be current and valid.
- Fitness Assessment Protocols: Proficiency in conducting various assessments, such as body composition analysis, movement screens (e.g., FMS), and cardiovascular testing.
- Exercise Prescription & Program Design: Demonstrated ability to create customized, progressive, and goal-specific workout plans.
- Knowledge of Human Anatomy & Kinesiology: A strong understanding of how the body moves and functions is essential for safe and effective training.
- Nutritional Principles: Foundational knowledge of nutrition to provide general guidance to clients within scope of practice.
