Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Develop, implement, and continuously evaluate a comprehensive and cutting-edge portfolio of fitness programs, including group fitness, personal training, small group training, and specialized wellness workshops to meet diverse member needs.
  • Establish and drive the strategic vision for the fitness department, setting ambitious goals and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for revenue, participation, and member retention, and reporting on progress to executive leadership.
  • Create and manage the annual departmental budget, including meticulous revenue forecasting, expense control, payroll management, and capital expenditure planning for new equipment and technology investments.
  • Recruit, hire, onboard, and provide ongoing training and professional development for a high-caliber team of fitness professionals, including personal trainers, group fitness instructors, and floor staff.
  • Lead, mentor, and inspire the fitness team, conducting regular performance evaluations, providing constructive feedback, and fostering a positive, collaborative, and results-oriented team culture.
  • Design and execute robust member engagement strategies and community-building events to significantly increase program participation, improve member satisfaction, and boost overall retention rates.
  • Conduct ongoing market research and competitive analysis to identify emerging fitness trends, new programming opportunities, and innovative technologies to ensure our offerings remain best-in-class.
  • Analyze financial performance, class attendance data, and program enrollment metrics to make data-driven decisions regarding scheduling, pricing, and program adjustments to maximize profitability and efficiency.
  • Oversee the entire group fitness schedule, optimizing class types, times, and instructor assignments based on member feedback, attendance data, and peak facility usage patterns.
  • Manage the procurement, inventory, and preventative maintenance schedule for all fitness equipment, making informed recommendations for repairs, replacements, and future acquisitions.
  • Develop and enforce standardized operating procedures, safety protocols, and quality assurance measures for all fitness services to guarantee a consistent, safe, and high-quality member experience.
  • Serve as the primary leader and point of escalation for member feedback, concerns, and inquiries related to fitness programming, resolving issues promptly and professionally.
  • Collaborate closely with the Marketing and Sales departments to create and execute compelling promotional campaigns, launch new programs, and drive membership growth through targeted fitness initiatives.
  • Oversee the administration and sales processes for all personal training and ancillary fitness programs, ensuring sales goals are consistently met or exceeded.
  • Build and cultivate strategic partnerships with local businesses, community organizations, and corporate wellness clients to expand program reach and create new revenue streams.
  • Ensure all fitness operations, certifications, and programming are in full compliance with industry standards, health regulations, and company policies.
  • Lead regular departmental and all-staff meetings to communicate key objectives, operational updates, and best practices, ensuring alignment across the entire team.
  • Directly manage the performance and productivity of the Head Personal Trainer and/or Group Fitness Manager, providing guidance and support to achieve their team goals.
  • Champion a service-oriented culture that is focused on creating a welcoming and supportive environment for members of all fitness levels.
  • Prepare and present detailed monthly and quarterly reports on departmental performance, including financial results, program statistics, and strategic initiative progress to senior management.
