Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Actively participate in daily live fitting sessions with designers, technical designers, and patternmakers to evaluate the fit, comfort, and movement of apparel prototypes across all categories.
- Provide clear, detailed, and constructive verbal feedback on garment fit, including specifics on pulling, gaping, twisting, and general comfort during various movements.
- Maintain the specific and consistent body measurements required by the brand's core sample size, communicating any fluctuations to the technical team promptly.
- Collaborate closely with the Technical Design team to help them understand fit issues, assisting them as they pin, mark, and adjust garments directly on the body.
- Stand for extended periods while being measured and photographed, demonstrating patience and professionalism throughout meticulous and sometimes lengthy fitting sessions.
- Simulate real-world activities such as sitting, bending, stretching, and walking to rigorously test garment performance, functionality, and range of motion.
- Articulate how fabrics and materials feel against the skin, providing valuable sensory feedback on texture, weight, drape, and potential irritants like seams or labels.
- Assess the overall look, proportion, and balance of the garment from a consumer's perspective, acting as the voice of the target customer in the fitting room.
- Compare the fit of new styles against previous best-sellers or core programs to ensure consistency and brand integrity across seasons.
- Evaluate the placement and functionality of all garment components, including pockets, zippers, buttons, and neckline drops, to ensure they are practical and well-proportioned.
- Assist in evaluating competitor's product fit by trying on rival garments and providing a detailed comparative analysis for market research purposes.
- Maintain a professional, positive, and collaborative demeanor, fostering a productive environment where open and honest feedback is encouraged.
- Articulate fit corrections and concerns using standardized industry terminology to ensure seamless communication and accurate documentation by the technical team.
- Participate in wear-testing programs, wearing sample garments for specified periods to provide feedback on real-world performance, durability, and comfort over time.
- Verify that corrections from previous fittings have been accurately applied to the next round of samples, ensuring the product is progressing correctly.
- Model approved garments for internal showroom presentations, lookbook creation, or educational seminars for retail and marketing teams.
- Communicate availability and scheduling changes effectively with the Product Development Coordinator to ensure fitting sessions are conducted efficiently.
- Check prototypes for any potential safety or comfort hazards, such as sharp trims, insecure hardware, or overly restrictive designs.
- Provide subjective but informed feedback on the overall aesthetic and emotional appeal of the garment, helping to bridge the gap between technical fit and customer desire.
- Evaluate washed samples to give feedback on shrinkage, color loss, shape retention, and the overall performance of the garment after laundering.
- Help the technical team document fit comments and proposed solutions by confirming their understanding of the feedback provided during the session.
Secondary Functions
- Assist in organizing and maintaining the sample library and fitting room, ensuring garments are properly tagged and accessible.
- Support the preparation of garments for fittings, including steaming, organizing by style number, and laying them out for the technical team.
- Participate in occasional market research initiatives or customer focus groups as an internal consumer representative.
- Provide support for ad-hoc projects within the Product Development and Technical Design departments as needed.
