Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Exercise ultimate command authority and responsibility for the safe and efficient operation of the aircraft and the safety of all persons on board during flight time.
- Conduct thorough pre-flight inspections of the aircraft, including walk-arounds and cockpit checks, to ensure all systems are functioning correctly and the aircraft is airworthy.
- Analyze and interpret meteorological data, flight plans, and NOTAMs (Notices to Airmen) to make final go/no-go decisions and plan the safest, most efficient route.
- Lead the flight crew by conducting detailed pre-flight briefings on flight plans, weather conditions, emergency procedures, and crew coordination (CRM).
- Ensure the aircraft is loaded in compliance with weight and balance limitations and that all cargo and baggage are properly secured.
- Operate the aircraft's controls and systems in all phases of flight—taxi, takeoff, climb, cruise, descent, approach, and landing—in accordance with standard operating procedures.
- Continuously monitor all flight instruments, aircraft systems, and fuel status throughout the flight to detect and respond to any potential issues.
- Make executive command decisions to deviate from the planned flight path or divert to an alternate airport in response to in-flight emergencies, severe weather, or other unforeseen circumstances.
- Maintain clear, concise, and professional communication with Air Traffic Control (ATC), company dispatch, and other ground support personnel.
- Manage and supervise the First Officer, ensuring they are proficient in their duties and providing mentorship and constructive feedback to support their professional development.
- Serve as the primary point of communication for passengers, providing timely updates on flight status, weather, and any delays in a calm and reassuring manner.
- Adhere to and enforce all company policies, procedures, and Federal Aviation Regulations (FARs) to ensure full operational compliance.
- Lead the crew in effectively managing any abnormal or emergency situation, utilizing established procedures and Crew Resource Management (CRM) principles to ensure the safest possible outcome.
- Complete all required post-flight documentation accurately and promptly, including flight logs, maintenance discrepancy reports, and incident reports.
- Maintain professional currency and proficiency by completing all required recurrent training, simulator sessions, and line checks.
- Act as a brand ambassador for the airline, demonstrating the highest standards of professionalism, integrity, and customer service to passengers and the public.
- Ensure the security of the cockpit and aircraft is maintained at all times, in accordance with national and international security protocols.
- Monitor crew duty times and rest periods to prevent fatigue and ensure the crew remains fit to fly.
- Make final determinations regarding aircraft airworthiness and any maintenance discrepancies, liaising with maintenance personnel to resolve issues before flight.
- Oversee the overall passenger experience from a flight operations perspective, aiming for a smooth and comfortable journey.
Secondary Functions
- Provide detailed feedback to management on operational procedures, route performance, and aircraft systems to contribute to continuous improvement.
- Participate in company safety programs, including attending safety meetings and contributing to the Safety Management System (SMS).

Required Skills & Competencies
Hard Skills (Technical)
- Unrestricted Airline Transport Pilot License (ATPL/ATP)
- Current FAA First Class Medical Certificate
- Specific Aircraft Type Rating (e.g., B777, A350, B737NG)
- Extensive flight time, typically 4,000+ hours total time with significant Pilot-in-Command (PIC) experience in multi-engine turbine aircraft.
- Deep, expert-level knowledge of aircraft systems, performance, aerodynamics, and automation.
- Proficient in the use of Flight Management Systems (FMS), Electronic Flight Bags (EFB), and other advanced cockpit technologies.
- Comprehensive understanding of Federal Aviation Regulations (FARs), particularly Parts 91, 117, and 121.
- Expertise in international flight operations, including oceanic procedures, RVSM, and international regulations (ICAO).

Experience Requirements
Typical Experience Range:
4,000 - 6,000+ total flight hours. A minimum of 1,000 hours as Pilot-in-Command (PIC) of a multi-engine turbine-powered aircraft is typically required.

- Significant experience in Part 121 airline operations.
