Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Receive, unpack, and meticulously process bulk floral shipments, ensuring all flowers and greens are properly cut, conditioned, and hydrated to maximize freshness and vase life.
  • Provide an exceptional and welcoming customer service experience by greeting clients, answering questions about floral products and care, and offering insightful design suggestions.
  • Assist senior floral designers with the hands-on preparation and assembly of complex arrangements for weddings, corporate events, and daily orders.
  • Master the art of creating beautiful, consistent hand-tied bouquets, bud vases, and small-scale arrangements for walk-in customers and pre-orders.
  • Operate the Point of Sale (POS) system with precision to process customer transactions, manage custom orders, and handle various payment types.
  • Maintain the pristine cleanliness and organization of the floral cooler, design workstations, and retail space to ensure a safe, efficient, and inviting environment for both staff and clients.
  • Answer incoming phone calls in a professional and friendly manner, accurately taking detailed floral orders and messages for the design team.
  • Prepare and elegantly wrap finished floral arrangements for delivery or customer pickup, ensuring they are structurally secure and beautifully presented.
  • Diligently water, prune, and care for all live plants and pre-made arrangements in the retail display area to maintain their health and visual appeal.
  • Assist with the on-site setup and post-event teardown of floral installations for weddings and special events, which may require flexible hours including evenings and weekends.
  • Clean and sanitize buckets, vases, and all design tools daily to prevent bacterial growth and uphold the highest standards of floral hygiene.

Secondary Functions

  • Manage and monitor the inventory of fresh flowers, plants, and hard goods (e.g., vases, ribbons, foam), proactively communicating re-stocking needs to the shop manager.
  • Monitor and respond to inquiries from online order platforms and social media, ensuring a seamless and positive digital customer experience.
  • Support visual merchandising efforts by helping to stage the retail floor, create appealing window displays, and arrange product showcases to attract and engage customers.
  • Prepare and attach enclosure cards, detailed care instructions, and company branding materials to all outgoing floral products.
  • Keep abreast of current floristry trends, seasonal flower availability, and new design techniques to contribute fresh and innovative ideas to the team.
  • Manage floral waste and compostable materials responsibly, adhering to the studio's sustainability policies and practices.
  • Prepare vases and containers in advance by cleaning, taping grids, and adding foliage ("greening") to improve efficiency during peak production times.
  • Assist in calculating prices for new products and custom arrangements based on established cost formulas and market value.
  • Proactively engage with customers to build lasting relationships, understand their floral preferences, and encourage repeat business and positive reviews.
  • Support the entire team during peak holiday seasons such as Valentine's Day and Mother's Day, demonstrating a positive attitude and strong work ethic under pressure.

Required Skills & Competencies

Hard Skills (Technical)

  • Flower Processing & Identification: Knowledge of how to properly care for and condition a wide variety of fresh-cut flowers and greens.
  • Basic Floral Design Principles: A foundational understanding of color theory, balance, and scale in floral arrangements.
  • POS System Operation: Experience with or ability to quickly learn retail point-of-sale software for processing transactions and orders.
  • Safe Tool Handling: Proficiency in safely using essential floral tools, including clippers, shears, and floral knives.
  • Inventory Awareness: Ability to monitor stock levels of both perishable (flowers) and non-perishable (vases, supplies) goods.
  • Vase & Container Prep: Skill in preparing various containers for design, including taping grids and conditioning.

Education & Experience

Educational Background

Minimum Education:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.

Preferred Education:

  • Certificate or coursework in Floristry, Horticulture, or a related Art/Design field.

  • Hospitality Management

Experience Requirements

Typical Experience Range: 0-2 years.

Preferred:

  • Previous experience in a retail, customer service, or hospitality role is highly desirable.
  • Prior experience in a flower shop or with a professional florist is a significant plus but not required for candidates with a strong passion and willingness to learn.
