Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Operate and monitor complex, automated milling machinery, including roller mills, sifters, purifiers, and aspiration systems, to ensure efficient and continuous production.
- Meticulously adjust equipment settings based on real-time data and quality control feedback to maintain precise product specifications for granulation, ash, and moisture content.
- Conduct regular and thorough quality assurance checks by collecting in-process and finished product samples for laboratory analysis, ensuring strict adherence to all quality standards.
- Execute and document routine sanitation, deep cleaning, and changeover procedures for all milling equipment and surrounding production areas in accordance with GMP and master sanitation schedules.
- Diligently monitor Human-Machine Interface (HMI) control panels, gauges, and computer systems to track material flow, equipment performance, and identify any operational deviations.
- Perform first-line troubleshooting to diagnose and resolve minor mechanical issues and operational stoppages, minimizing plant downtime and maintaining production efficiency.
- Accurately complete all required production documentation, including operational logs, quality check reports, sanitation records, and inventory data, ensuring full traceability and data integrity.
- Manage the transfer of raw grain from storage bins to the milling system and the movement of finished flour to designated packaging or bulk storage silos.
- Adhere rigorously to all company safety policies and procedures, including Lock-Out/Tag-Out (LOTO), use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), and confined space entry protocols.
- Collaborate effectively with the maintenance department by generating work orders for equipment malfunctions and assisting in preventive maintenance tasks to ensure machinery longevity.
- Participate actively in inventory management, including cycle counts of raw materials, processing aids, and finished products to ensure accurate stock levels.
- Operate bulk loading and unloading systems for trucks or rail cars, verifying correct weights, product types, and ensuring all shipping documentation is accurate.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment by consistently applying 5S principles and participating in daily housekeeping initiatives.
- Communicate critical operational information effectively with shift supervisors, quality assurance personnel, and other operators to ensure a smooth and coordinated production flow across shifts.
- Understand and control the flour blending process to create specific product formulations that meet unique customer orders and internal specifications.
Secondary Functions
- Assist in the training, coaching, and onboarding of new operators, sharing expert knowledge of equipment operation, safety procedures, and quality standards.
- Actively participate in continuous improvement projects and team meetings aimed at enhancing safety, quality, and overall equipment effectiveness (OEE).
- Provide operational support for adjacent packaging lines, including machine setup, operation, and troubleshooting as needed during peak production periods.
- Engage in root cause analysis for any product non-conformances or safety incidents to help identify contributing factors and implement effective corrective actions.
- Support the implementation and ongoing maintenance of our food safety programs, including HACCP, SQF, and BRC standards.
- Perform basic preventative maintenance tasks as scheduled, such as lubrication, belt tensioning and inspection, and filter changes.
Required Skills & Competencies
Hard Skills (Technical)
- Proven proficiency in operating industrial production machinery, with direct experience in milling or food processing equipment being highly desirable.
- Strong mechanical aptitude for troubleshooting, performing minor equipment adjustments, and assisting with preventative maintenance.
- In-depth knowledge of food safety standards, including Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), HACCP, and allergen control programs.
- Certified or able to be certified to safely operate a forklift and other material handling equipment (e.g., pallet jacks, scissor lifts).
- Basic computer literacy for data entry and interaction with HMI screens, SCADA systems, and production logging software (e.g., SAP, MES).
- Competency in performing basic quality control tests (e.g., moisture, ash, granulation) and interpreting the results to make process adjustments.
- Demonstrable understanding of industrial safety procedures, particularly Lock-Out/Tag-Out (LOTO), machine guarding, and chemical handling.
- Ability to read and interpret production schedules, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and equipment manuals.

Education & Experience
Educational Background
Minimum Education:
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
Preferred Education:

Experience Requirements
Typical Experience Range:
- 2-5 years of hands-on experience in a manufacturing, food production, or agricultural processing environment.
Preferred:
- Direct experience as a Mill Operator, Flour Miller, or in a similar role within a food-grade processing facility. Experience working in a facility with a certified food safety program (SQF, BRC, or AIB) is a significant asset.
