Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Analyze and map end-to-end data flows across multiple systems, from source ingestion and transformation (ETL/ELT) to final consumption in analytics platforms and reports.
  • Conduct detailed business process analysis using techniques like value stream mapping and swimlane diagrams to identify redundancies, delays, and areas for improvement.
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation of data lineage, process models, and system interaction diagrams to serve as a single source of truth for the organization.
  • Utilize SQL, Python, or R to query large datasets and perform quantitative analysis on flow metrics, such as cycle time, throughput, and error rates.
  • Design, build, and maintain interactive dashboards and reports in BI tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI) to visualize process performance and key flow indicators for stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with business stakeholders, department heads, and IT teams to understand current-state challenges and gather requirements for future-state process designs.
  • Monitor system and data integration points to proactively identify potential failures, data quality issues, or performance degradation in critical workflows.
  • Model the impact of proposed process or system changes, providing data-backed forecasts on efficiency gains, cost savings, and resource allocation.
  • Investigate and perform root cause analysis on process deviations or data anomalies, recommending robust corrective and preventative actions.
  • Analyze user journey and customer interaction flows on web and mobile platforms to optimize user experience and conversion funnels.
  • Lead workshops and interviews with subject matter experts to elicit detailed information about operational procedures and data handling rules.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of existing controls within business processes and data pipelines, suggesting enhancements to ensure compliance and mitigate risk.
  • Translate business requirements into technical specifications for data engineering and software development teams to implement new or improved flows.
  • Track the performance of implemented solutions against initial projections and KPIs, iterating on designs to ensure continuous improvement.
  • Prepare and present findings, insights, and recommendations in a clear and compelling manner to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Analyze network traffic flows and API call patterns to diagnose latency issues, optimize performance, and ensure scalability of our digital infrastructure.
  • Develop simulation models to test hypotheses and predict the behavior of complex systems under different scenarios and load conditions.
  • Champion a culture of process excellence and data-driven decision-making throughout the organization by demonstrating the value of flow analysis.
  • Manage a portfolio of small to medium-sized process improvement initiatives from conception through to implementation and post-launch review.
  • Define and standardize key performance indicators (KPIs) and metrics for measuring the health and efficiency of critical business and data flows.

Secondary Functions

  • Support ad-hoc data requests and exploratory data analysis to answer urgent business questions.
  • Contribute to the organization's data governance framework by defining data standards and quality rules.
  • Collaborate with business units to translate data needs into engineering requirements for the data platform team.
  • Participate in sprint planning, daily stand-ups, and retrospective ceremonies within an agile project management framework.
