Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Skillfully set up, operate, and meticulously monitor advanced foam processing machinery, including CNC cutters, laminators, die-presses, and molding equipment, according to detailed production schedules and work orders.
  • Interpret complex blueprints, technical drawings, and job specification sheets to ensure machine parameters and material selection are accurate for each production run.
  • Continuously monitor machine operations, gauges, and control panels to detect any potential malfunctions, deviations from standards, or material defects, making real-time adjustments as necessary.
  • Perform rigorous in-process and final quality control inspections on foam components, using precision measuring tools like calipers, tape measures, and gauges to ensure adherence to strict tolerance requirements.
  • Execute adjustments to machine settings, such as cutting speed, blade angle, temperature, and pressure, to optimize performance and guarantee the quality of the final product.
  • Systematically troubleshoot and resolve minor operational problems and machine stoppages to minimize downtime and maintain production flow.
  • Conduct routine and preventative maintenance on machinery, including cleaning, lubricating parts, and replacing dull blades or worn components, to ensure optimal long-term performance.
  • Safely handle, load, and position large raw materials, such as polyurethane foam buns, rolls of adhesive film, and other substrates, onto the machinery.
  • Diligently maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment by adhering to 5S principles and company-wide housekeeping standards.
  • Accurately complete all required production logs, quality assurance documentation, and operational reports with a high level of detail and timeliness.
  • Program or input job parameters into the machine's computer interface (CNC) to control the cutting path and operational sequence for custom orders.
  • Collaborate effectively with shift supervisors, quality assurance personnel, and maintenance teams to report production progress, quality issues, and equipment needs.
  • Operate forklifts, pallet jacks, and other material handling equipment to safely transport raw materials and finished goods throughout the facility.
  • Maximize material yield by strategically planning cuts and machine usage to reduce scrap and minimize waste, contributing to cost-saving initiatives.
  • Securely package, palletize, and label finished foam products according to specific customer requirements and internal standards for shipping and storage.
  • Strictly adhere to all corporate and OSHA safety regulations, including the consistent use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) like safety glasses, gloves, and steel-toed boots.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement and actively participate in continuous improvement projects aimed at enhancing safety, quality, and productivity.
  • Assist in managing inventory levels of raw materials and production supplies by communicating needs to the purchasing department or team lead.
  • Perform visual inspections of raw materials before processing to identify any flaws or inconsistencies that could impact the final product quality.
  • Cross-train on various types of foam fabrication equipment to provide operational flexibility and support to other production areas as needed.

  • Assist in the training and onboarding of new machine operators, sharing knowledge of best practices, safety protocols, and operational procedures.

Required Skills & Competencies

Hard Skills (Technical)

  • Machine Operation: Proven ability to set up, operate, and monitor industrial manufacturing machinery, preferably with foam, plastics, or textiles.
  • Blueprint & Schematic Reading: Strong capability to read and accurately interpret technical drawings, work orders, and manufacturing specifications.
  • Precision Measurement: Proficiency in using measuring instruments such as tape measures, calipers, micrometers, and protractors to verify part dimensions.
  • Basic Mathematics: Solid understanding of basic math, including fractions, decimals, and geometry, for calculating dimensions and material usage.
  • Mechanical Aptitude: Natural ability to understand how mechanical systems work, perform minor adjustments, and assist with basic maintenance tasks.

Education & Experience

Educational Background

Minimum Education:

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent is required.

Experience Requirements

Typical Experience Range:

  • 1-3 years of hands-on experience as a machine operator in a fast-paced manufacturing or production environment.

  • 2+ years of direct experience operating foam fabrication equipment, such as a die-cutter, CNC contour cutter, laminator, or slitter. Experience in industries like packaging, furniture, automotive, or aerospace is highly desirable.
