Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Operate industrial sewing and stitching machines (e.g., single-needle, post-bed) to assemble shoe uppers with precision and consistency.
- Perform lasting operations by expertly stretching and shaping shoe uppers over a "last" to form the final shoe shape before sole attachment.
- Precisely apply specialized adhesives, primers, and cements to bond outsoles, midsoles, and uppers, ensuring proper curing and durable adhesion.
- Utilize cutting dies and clicker presses to accurately cut leather, textiles, and synthetic materials according to patterns and specifications.
- Perform skiving operations to thin the edges of material components, ensuring smooth seams and comfortable fits.
- Attach and secure hardware such as eyelets, hooks, and buckles using appropriate machinery and hand tools.
- Conduct bottoming and cementing processes, preparing the shoe bottom and attaching the sole unit with heat and pressure activation.
- Execute finishing tasks including trimming excess material, cleaning residual adhesive, buffing, polishing, and dressing the final product.
- Insert and attach components such as insoles, sock liners, tongues, and heel counters according to product guidelines.
- Visually inspect components before, during, and after assembly to identify material defects, stitching errors, or other imperfections.
- Follow detailed work orders, blueprints, and technical specifications to ensure each shoe is built to the correct design standard.
- Manage workflow at your station to meet and exceed daily and weekly production targets without compromising quality.
- Safely operate a variety of hand tools including trimming knives, hammers, and specialized pliers for detailed assembly work.
- Monitor machine performance, performing basic troubleshooting and routine maintenance like changing needles and cleaning equipment.
- Carefully handle a wide range of materials, including delicate leathers, high-tech synthetics, and various textiles.
- Attach outsoles to the lasted uppers using sole presses or stitching methods like Goodyear welting, depending on the shoe's construction.
- Prepare and assemble heel components, ensuring they are correctly positioned and securely attached for stability and comfort.
- Perform "roughing" on material surfaces to create a better bonding area for adhesives.
- Collaborate with team members on the assembly line to ensure a smooth and efficient transition of products between stations.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area, adhering to all company safety policies and procedures.
- Document production output and track any non-conforming products as required by the quality management system.
