Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Skillfully operate a variety of complex footwear manufacturing machinery, including but not limited to automatic stitching machines, die-cutting presses, lasting equipment, and injection molding units.
  • Meticulously set up and calibrate machines at the beginning of each production run, ensuring all settings align with specific work orders, material types, and design specifications.
  • Continuously monitor machine performance during operation to proactively detect any signs of malfunction, material jams, or deviations from quality standards.
  • Execute routine and preventative maintenance tasks on machinery, such as cleaning, lubricating moving parts, and making minor adjustments to maintain optimal functionality.
  • Conduct thorough in-process and final inspections of footwear components and finished products, verifying they meet stringent company quality and aesthetic standards.
  • Accurately read and interpret technical documents, including production schedules, work orders, and blueprints, to determine precise processing requirements.
  • Efficiently load raw materials such as leather, textiles, rubber, and synthetic compounds onto or into production equipment.
  • Precisely adjust machine parameters like speed, temperature, pressure, and timing to optimize the manufacturing process for different materials and product styles.
  • Troubleshoot common operational issues and mechanical problems, performing corrective actions to minimize downtime and reporting complex faults to the maintenance team.
  • Maintain detailed and accurate production logs, meticulously recording output volume, cycle times, scrap rates, and any equipment downtime.
  • Strictly adhere to all established safety protocols, including wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and maintaining a clean and organized work area (5S principles).
  • Perform quality control checks at critical stages of the production process to identify and prevent defects from moving down the line.
  • Expertly change out machine tooling, such as dies, molds, and needles, as required for different footwear sizes, styles, or production runs.
  • Ensure the efficient utilization of all raw materials to actively minimize waste, reduce scrap, and contribute to cost control initiatives.
  • Operate specialized equipment, which may include CNC cutting tables, automated cementing systems, or direct-attach sole injection presses.
  • Manage the consistent flow of components to and from your workstation to maintain the target production pace and support overall line efficiency.
  • Identify, segregate, and properly document non-conforming parts or products according to the company's established quality assurance procedures.
  • Follow all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for machine setup, operation, and shutdown to ensure consistency, safety, and product quality.
  • Collaborate effectively with team members, line leads, and supervisors to facilitate a smooth, cohesive, and highly efficient production workflow.
  • Handle and transport raw materials and finished goods within the production department safely and efficiently, using carts or pallet jacks as needed.

  • Assist in tracking and recording production data, including output, downtime, and material usage for performance analysis.
  • Participate in continuous improvement programs by providing feedback and suggestions to enhance production efficiency, safety, and quality.
  • Collaborate closely with the Quality Assurance and Maintenance teams to report issues, troubleshoot problems, and ensure seamless production flow.
  • Engage in daily team huddles and planning meetings to align on production targets and proactively address any operational challenges.

Required Skills & Competencies

Hard Skills (Technical)

  • Machine Operation: Proven experience with industrial machinery, preferably in footwear, textiles, or apparel.
  • Mechanical Aptitude: Ability to understand machine functions, perform minor adjustments, and troubleshoot basic issues.
  • Quality Control Inspection: A keen eye for detail to identify defects, blemishes, and deviations from standards.
  • Basic Machine Maintenance: Competency in cleaning, lubricating, and performing routine upkeep on equipment.
  • Reading Technical Documents: Ability to interpret work orders, schematics, and production specifications.
  • Knowledge of Materials: Familiarity with properties of leather, synthetics, textiles, and adhesives is a plus.
  • Computer-Controlled Machinery (CNC/PLC): Experience with automated or computer-driven equipment is highly desirable.

Education & Experience

Educational Background

Minimum Education:

Experience Requirements

Typical Experience Range:

  • 1-3 years of experience as a machine operator in a manufacturing environment.

Preferred:
