As a Forklift Driver, you are the backbone of our warehouse operations. You will be instrumental in loading and unloading trucks, transporting goods to designated storage areas, and preparing orders for shipment. Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Operate various types of powered industrial trucks (e.g., sit-down, stand-up, reach truck, cherry picker) to move materials throughout the warehouse and facility.
  • Load and unload materials and merchandise from incoming vehicles and stack them to assigned places in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Locate and move stock of products to pallets or crates for storage or shipment, ensuring proper handling to prevent damage.
  • Identify and report damages, shortages, or quality deficiencies to the warehouse supervisor or management.
  • Perform daily pre-operational safety checks on forklifts and other equipment, reporting any maintenance needs or malfunctions immediately.
  • Transport raw materials to production workstations and move finished goods to designated storage or shipping areas.
  • Utilize Radio Frequency (RF) scanning equipment to track inventory movements, pick orders, and manage stock locations within the Warehouse Management System (WMS).
  • Efficiently stack goods in the correct storage bays, following inventory control instructions and ensuring stability of the stack.
  • Pull and prepare customer orders for shipment, ensuring the accuracy of the items and quantities picked against the order sheet.
  • Securely wrap and palletize orders, attaching correct labels and documentation before loading onto trucks.
  • Adhere strictly to all company safety policies, OSHA regulations, and standard operating procedures for material handling.
  • Verify the accuracy of inbound and outbound shipments by checking merchandise against bills of lading, invoices, or other records.
  • Consolidate partial pallets for inbound and outbound shipments to maximize space and efficiency.
  • Maintain an accurate record of inventory movements and material transactions, both manually and electronically.
  • Assist in conducting regular physical inventory counts and cycle counts to ensure inventory accuracy.
  • Keep assigned aisles and work areas clean, organized, and free of hazards to maintain a safe working environment.
  • Communicate effectively with team members, supervisors, and truck drivers to coordinate the movement of goods.
  • Inspect products for defects and damages during the receiving and handling process, segregating damaged items as required.
  • Efficiently move product from staging and/or storage areas into railcars or trailers for outbound shipment.
  • Rotate stock as required by FIFO (First-In, First-Out) or other specified inventory management principles.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing warehouse efficiency, safety, and quality.

Secondary Functions

  • Assist with general warehouse duties, such as packing, sorting, and labeling, when forklift operations are not required.
  • Participate in routine cleaning and organization of the entire warehouse facility and storage yards.
  • Provide support to other departments by transporting materials or equipment as requested.
  • Help train new associates on basic warehouse procedures and safety protocols.

Required Skills & Competencies

Hard Skills (Technical)

  • Forklift Operation Certification: Valid and current certification to operate powered industrial trucks.
  • Equipment Proficiency: Experience with various forklift types, including sit-down counter-balance, stand-up reach trucks, and electric pallet jacks.
  • Warehouse Management Systems (WMS): Proficiency in using WMS software to track inventory and manage orders.
  • RF Scanner Usage: Skilled in operating RF scanning guns for picking, receiving, and inventory tasks.
  • Basic Math & Computer Skills: Ability to perform simple calculations and data entry for inventory tracking.
  • Loading & Unloading Techniques: Knowledge of proper loading patterns and weight distribution for trailers and containers.

Education & Experience

Educational Background

Minimum Education:

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.

Preferred Education:

  • Vocational training or certification in logistics or forklift operation.

Experience Requirements

Typical Experience Range: 1-3 years of professional experience operating a forklift in a warehouse or distribution center environment.

Preferred:

  • 3+ years of experience in a high-volume distribution setting.
  • Experience operating specialized equipment like clamp trucks, cherry pickers, or turret trucks.
  • Previous experience working in a refrigerated or freezer warehouse environment.
