Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Safely and efficiently operate various types of powered industrial trucks, including sit-down, stand-up, reach, cherry picker, and turret trucks, to move materials throughout the facility.
- Load and unload freight, trucks, and shipping containers in a timely and organized manner, ensuring proper handling to prevent damage to goods.
- Accurately pull, pick, and stage customer orders for shipment, verifying products and quantities against pick tickets or RF scanner instructions.
- Transport raw materials, work-in-progress, and finished goods to and from production lines, storage areas, and loading docks.
- Stack, palletize, and store merchandise in designated warehouse locations, optimizing space utilization and maintaining organized racking systems.
- Utilize a Warehouse Management System (WMS) and RF scanning equipment to record product movement, update inventory levels, and ensure data accuracy.
- Perform routine pre-operation and post-operation inspections on forklift equipment, reporting any mechanical issues, maintenance needs, or safety concerns to the supervisor immediately.
- Weigh, count, and record material data on tags and labels, ensuring all products are properly identified and tracked.
- Move pallets and other materials to and from storage or production areas, safely navigating narrow aisles and busy operational zones.
- Secure loads properly before transport to ensure stability and prevent shifting or falling during movement.
- Inspect inbound and outbound shipments for damage, defects, and discrepancies, reporting any issues to management for resolution.
- Consolidate partial pallets for inbound and outbound shipments to maximize storage space and shipping efficiency.
- Adhere strictly to all company safety policies, OSHA standards, and standard operating procedures (SOPs) for equipment operation and material handling.
- Maintain an accurate log of daily activities, including materials moved and inventory adjustments.
Secondary Functions
- Participate in regular cycle counts and physical inventory audits to maintain inventory accuracy and control.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and orderly work environment by keeping aisles, loading docks, and staging areas clear of debris and hazards.
- Assist in training new team members on safe forklift operation and warehouse procedures as directed.
- Communicate effectively with supervisors, truck drivers, and other warehouse personnel to coordinate material flow.
- Report any inventory discrepancies, product damages, or operational problems to the warehouse lead or supervisor promptly.
- Wrap orders on pallets before they are loaded for shipment to ensure stability and protection.
- Assist with general warehouse duties, such as packing, sorting, and manual material handling, as needed to support team goals.
- Participate actively in safety meetings and contribute to a culture of continuous improvement in safety practices.
Required Skills & Competencies
Hard Skills (Technical)
- Forklift Certification: Valid and current OSHA-compliant forklift operator certification is a must.
- Equipment Proficiency: Proven experience operating multiple types of forklifts (e.g., sit-down counter-balance, stand-up reach, electric pallet jack, cherry picker).
- Warehouse Management Systems (WMS): Experience using WMS software to track inventory and manage orders.
- RF Scanner Proficiency: Skilled in using handheld RF (Radio Frequency) scanners for picking, put-away, and inventory tasks.
