Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Conduct comprehensive, end-to-end investigations into allegations of complex internal and external fraud, including payment fraud, account takeover, identity theft, and collusion.
- Analyze large, complex datasets, including transactional records, user behavior data, and network logs, to identify patterns, anomalies, and sophisticated fraud schemes.
- Collect, examine, and preserve digital and physical evidence in accordance with legal and procedural standards to support investigative conclusions.
- Prepare clear, concise, and detailed investigative reports that summarize findings, document evidence, and provide actionable recommendations for mitigation and prevention.
- Conduct interviews with victims, witnesses, and, when appropriate, subjects to gather critical information and ascertain facts.
- Utilize a variety of open-source intelligence (OSINT) and proprietary tools to gather information and enrich data on suspicious entities and activities.
- Collaborate with law enforcement, financial institutions, and other external partners to share intelligence and support criminal and civil proceedings.
- Testify in legal proceedings, including depositions and court hearings, to present investigative findings and evidence.
- Evaluate and triage incoming alerts from fraud detection systems, making critical decisions on which cases warrant full investigation.
- Identify and analyze control weaknesses or process gaps that enable fraudulent activity, and recommend enhancements to systems and policies.
- Perform deep-dive analysis on confirmed fraud events to understand the root cause, impact, and methodology of the attack.
- Monitor and research emerging fraud trends, typologies, and technologies to anticipate future threats and adapt investigative techniques.
- Manage a caseload of complex investigations, ensuring timely progression, accurate documentation, and adherence to service-level agreements (SLAs).
- Make data-driven recommendations on actions to be taken, such as account closures, fund recovery, and law enforcement reporting.
