Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Greet customers with a warm and friendly demeanor, proactively offering assistance and creating a positive, welcoming shopping environment.
- Provide an exceptional level of customer service by answering detailed questions about produce origin, seasonality, flavor profiles, and nutritional information.
- Actively engage with customers to drive sales, suggest complementary items, and provide helpful preparation tips, storage advice, or recipes for various fruits and vegetables.
- Operate a Point-of-Sale (POS) system with speed and accuracy, handling cash, credit/debit transactions, and mobile payments while maintaining a balanced cash drawer.
- Skillfully build and maintain abundant, visually appealing displays of fresh produce, ensuring they remain clean, well-organized, and attractive throughout the business day.
- Conduct regular, thorough inspections of all produce on the sales floor, culling (removing) any bruised, overripe, or spoiled items to uphold the highest quality standards.
- Weigh, price, and package produce for customers, ensuring accurate measurements and proper handling techniques to prevent damage and ensure customer satisfaction.
- Manage inventory levels on the sales floor by continuously restocking displays from back-stock, anticipating customer demand to ensure popular items are consistently available.
- Set up and break down produce displays at the beginning and end of the day, which includes cleaning tables, organizing signage, and properly storing leftover stock to maintain freshness.
- Stay current and knowledgeable about all produce offerings, including organic, local, and exotic varieties, to effectively communicate their unique benefits and selling points to customers.
- Implement promotional strategies by arranging special displays for sale items, ensuring all pricing and signage are updated, accurate, and clearly visible.
- Handle customer inquiries and resolve complaints in a professional and courteous manner, finding effective solutions to ensure customer retention and satisfaction.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area, including sweeping floors, wiping down surfaces, and adhering to all health and safety regulations.
Secondary Functions
- Assist in receiving and unloading produce deliveries, carefully verifying shipment contents against invoices and inspecting for quality, damage, and freshness upon arrival.
- Properly store incoming produce in designated coolers, walk-in refrigerators, or dry storage areas, consistently applying the First-In, First-Out (FIFO) rotation method.
- Prepare produce for the sales floor, which may include tasks like trimming greens, washing vegetables, crisping lettuce, and bundling herbs to enhance appearance and shelf life.
- Participate in regular inventory counts and audits to help track stock levels, identify discrepancies, and provide data to assist in ordering new supplies.
- Monitor and manage product waste by accurately recording culled or spoiled items, and contributing ideas and efforts towards waste reduction initiatives.
- Collaborate effectively with team members and department managers to achieve collective sales goals, maintain department standards, and ensure smooth daily operations.
- Build and maintain positive working relationships with local suppliers and farmers, occasionally communicating about orders or quality feedback as directed by management.
- Support ad-hoc data requests and exploratory data analysis.
- Contribute to the organization's data strategy and roadmap.
- Collaborate with business units to translate data needs into engineering requirements.
