Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

Conduct pre-operation safety checks and operational readiness inspections of fuel delivery vehicles, pumps, meters, hoses and grounding equipment before each fueling shift to ensure all equipment functions correctly and meets safety standards.
Execute precise fueling operations for aircraft, fleet vehicles, generators, or industrial equipment by connecting hoses, setting flow rates, monitoring meter readings, and confirming volumes delivered while maintaining manufacturer and company fueling procedures.

Communicate proactively with pilots, vehicle operators, dispatch, and operations teams to coordinate fueling windows, confirm fuel type and quantity, and minimize aircraft or vehicle delay risks.
Follow and enforce confined space, hot work and lockout/tagout procedures when performing maintenance or accessing tanks and pump rooms to ensure personal and team safety.
Assist with reconnecting and testing over-wing, single-point and hydrant fueling systems for aircraft, including hydrant pit valve checks, pressure testing and interlock verification when applicable.
Conduct visual inspections of fuel storage tanks for structural integrity, leak signs, gasket condition and water accumulation; log observations and coordinate tank draining or repairs as required.
Adhere to hazmat handling protocols when transporting and transferring fuel, including placarding, securement of hoses and lids, proper load distribution and compliance with DOT shipping paper requirements.
Operate forklifts and other ground support equipment to move fuel drums, containment pallets, and spill kits while following safe materials handling and storage practices.
Participate in periodic safety briefings, shift handovers and operational debriefs to share observations, near-miss reports and continuous improvement opportunities related to fueling operations.
Maintain and restock spill response materials, PPE, grounding cables, absorbents and first-aid supplies at fueling points to ensure readiness for immediate incident containment and response.
Validate fuel type and specification against work orders and aircraft/vehicle fueling logs to prevent misfueling incidents; use labeling and cross-check procedures when multiple fuel grades are present.
Train new hires and temporary staff on standard fueling procedures, emergency response drills, proper hose handling, and company safety policies to raise overall team competency and reduce operational risk.
Enforce site-specific environmental protection practices such as secondary containment, stormwater controls and proper disposal of fuel-contaminated materials to reduce ecological impact and regulatory penalties.
Support meter calibration activities and maintain calibration logs, coordinate with calibration vendors as needed and ensure metering devices deliver accurate volume readings for billing and inventory control.
Perform on-shift troubleshooting for common fueling equipment faults (pump cavitation, filter blockages, meter discrepancies) and coordinate with mechanics or technicians for more complex repairs.
Participate in regulatory audits and inspections by providing complete fueling logs, safety documentation, training records and answering compliance-related questions thoroughly and transparently.
