Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Safely operate a company-provided delivery vehicle (e.g., cargo van, box truck) in compliance with all company policies, traffic laws, and DOT regulations.
  • Execute a daily delivery route in a timely and efficient manner, utilizing navigation software and route optimization tools to manage deadlines.
  • Load and unload packages onto the vehicle, ensuring they are sorted, handled with care, and secured properly to prevent damage during transit.
  • Perform comprehensive pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections, reporting any maintenance issues or damage immediately to the fleet manager.
  • Utilize handheld scanner technology to accurately track package status, confirm deliveries, and capture proof of delivery (photos, signatures).
  • Provide exceptional, professional, and friendly customer service at the point of delivery, acting as a positive representative of the brand.
  • Follow specific customer delivery instructions (e.g., leave at front door, specific drop-off location) with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Manage and secure all packages and company equipment, including the vehicle, fuel card, and scanning device, throughout the shift.
  • Navigate diverse urban, suburban, and rural areas, adapting to changing traffic patterns, road closures, and weather conditions.
  • Maintain constant communication with the dispatch team, providing updates on delivery progress, delays, or any on-road issues.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve on-the-spot delivery challenges, such as incorrect addresses, inaccessible locations, or customer availability issues.
  • Lift, carry, and maneuver packages of varying weights and sizes, often up to 50 lbs, on a consistent basis.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and presentable vehicle, reflecting the company's standards of professionalism.
  • Adhere to all safety protocols, including safe lifting techniques, defensive driving, and proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).

Secondary Functions

  • Assist with sorting packages, loading other vehicles, and general warehouse support during periods of high volume or when delivery routes are complete.
  • Handle the return process for undeliverable or refused packages, ensuring they are documented correctly and returned to the fulfillment center.
  • Accurately maintain electronic and manual delivery logs, fuel records, and vehicle inspection reports.
  • Provide constructive feedback to the logistics team on route efficiency, customer feedback, and potential process improvements.
  • Participate in mandatory safety meetings and ongoing training sessions to stay current on best practices and company policies.
  • Collaborate with warehouse associates and other drivers to ensure a smooth and efficient hand-off process between shifts.
  • Manage on-road expenses, such as fuel and tolls, using a company-provided card and maintaining accurate records for reconciliation.

Required Skills & Competencies

Hard Skills (Technical)

  • Valid Driver's License with a clean driving record and adherence to all state and federal driving regulations.
  • Vehicle Operation: Proficiency in operating delivery vehicles such as high-roof cargo vans or light-duty box trucks.
  • GPS & Navigation Technology: Skilled in using GPS devices and smartphone applications (e.g., Google Maps, Waze) for route navigation.
  • Mobile Device Proficiency: Experience using handheld scanners, smartphones, and delivery applications for tracking, communication, and proof of delivery.
  • Physical Stamina & Strength: Ability to consistently lift, push, pull, and carry packages weighing up to 50 lbs and occasionally more with assistance.
  • DOT Regulation Knowledge: Basic understanding of Department of Transportation (DOT) rules for commercial drivers is a strong plus.
