Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Conceptualize and develop innovative and commercially viable furniture designs and collections from initial brief to final production.
  • Create detailed and precise 2D technical drawings, 3D CAD models, and photorealistic renderings using software like SolidWorks, Rhino, and KeyShot.
  • Lead the research, selection, and testing of materials, finishes, hardware, and textiles to ensure durability, aesthetics, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Develop and build physical prototypes and mock-ups to test for ergonomics, functionality, stability, and overall design intent.
  • Manage multiple design projects simultaneously, adhering to strict timelines, budgets, and development calendars from concept to market launch.
  • Produce comprehensive technical specification packages and Bills of Materials (BOMs) for clear communication with domestic and international manufacturing partners.
  • Collaborate directly with engineers and factory production teams to resolve design challenges and ensure manufacturability and quality control.
  • Conduct thorough market research and competitive analysis to identify emerging trends, consumer needs, and new opportunities for innovation.
  • Present design concepts, detailed renderings, and physical prototypes to internal stakeholders and senior leadership for review and approval.
  • Revise and refine designs based on feedback from cross-functional teams, including marketing, sales, and production.
  • Ensure all designs comply with relevant industry standards, safety regulations, and compliance requirements (e.g., BIFMA).
  • Travel to manufacturing facilities, suppliers, and trade shows to oversee production, source new materials, and stay informed of industry advancements.
  • Maintain an organized library of design assets, material samples, and project documentation throughout the development lifecycle.
  • Drive the aesthetic and functional direction for new product categories, translating brand identity into compelling physical products.
  • Evaluate and analyze the cost-effectiveness and profitability of proposed designs, working to optimize for value without sacrificing quality.

Secondary Functions

  • Provide technical support and design clarification to production, sourcing, and quality assurance teams as needed.
  • Participate in market research and trend analysis to inform the strategic direction of future product lines.
  • Collaborate with the marketing and sales teams to develop compelling product narratives, training tools, and presentation materials.
  • Engage in regular design critiques, workshops, and brainstorming sessions to foster a culture of innovation and continuous improvement within the design team.
  • Contribute to the visual merchandising strategy for showrooms and retail spaces, ensuring product is displayed effectively.
  • Mentor junior designers and interns, providing guidance, feedback, and support for their professional growth.

Required Skills & Competencies

Hard Skills (Technical)

  • 3D CAD Modeling: High proficiency in SolidWorks, Rhino, or equivalent parametric modeling software for creating complex surfaces and production-ready files.
  • Rendering Software: Expertise in creating photorealistic visuals using KeyShot, V-Ray, or similar rendering engines.
  • Technical Drawing: Ability to produce detailed, accurate 2D technical drawings and manufacturing specification packets.
  • Adobe Creative Suite: Competency in Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign for presentations, texture creation, and graphic communication.
  • Material & Manufacturing Knowledge: Deep understanding of wood, metal, plastic, and textile manufacturing processes, capabilities, and limitations.
  • Sketching & Visualization: Strong freehand and digital sketching skills to quickly communicate ideas and explore forms.

Educational Background

Minimum Education:
