Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Conduct comprehensive visual and dimensional inspections of finished furniture pieces to ensure they meet stringent quality standards and design specifications.
  • Meticulously examine raw materials, components, and sub-assemblies for defects prior to and during the manufacturing process.
  • Identify, document, and clearly communicate any product defects, damages, or deviations, such as scratches, dents, color inconsistencies, or structural weaknesses.
  • Utilize a variety of measuring tools, including tape measures, calipers, and gauges, to verify that product dimensions conform to technical drawings and blueprints.
  • Perform functional checks on all moving parts, such as drawers, doors, hinges, and reclining mechanisms, to ensure smooth and proper operation.
  • Assess the quality of finishes, including paint, stain, and varnish, checking for even application, correct color matching, and absence of blemishes.
  • Evaluate upholstery for proper fabric alignment, seam integrity, stitching quality, and cushion fill consistency.
  • Generate detailed, accurate inspection reports with photographic evidence and clear descriptions of findings for the quality and production management teams.
  • Issue formal approval or rejection of products and components based on established Acceptable Quality Limit (AQL) standards and inspection criteria.
  • Collaborate directly with production supervisors and assembly line workers to provide real-time feedback on quality issues and prevent recurrence.
  • Ensure all products are correctly and securely packaged according to company standards to prevent damage during transit and storage.
  • Verify that all labeling, hardware packets, and assembly instructions are present and correct before final shipment.
  • Monitor and audit production processes to identify potential risks to product quality and recommend preventative measures.
  • Perform root cause analysis on recurring defects to help implement effective and lasting corrective actions.
  • Stay current with industry standards, safety regulations, and best practices in furniture manufacturing and quality control.
  • Test the structural integrity and stability of furniture items to ensure they are safe for consumer use.
  • Compare finished products to approved master samples to guarantee consistency across production runs.
  • Train and mentor new inspectors or production team members on quality standards and inspection procedures.
  • Manage the quarantine area for non-conforming products, ensuring they are properly segregated and dispositioned.
  • Participate in pilot runs for new products, providing critical quality feedback to the design and engineering teams.
  • Conduct final random audits on outbound shipments to provide a final quality gate before products reach the customer.

Secondary Functions

  • Maintain and meticulously organize all quality control documentation, inspection reports, and photographic evidence for traceability and trend analysis.

  • Expertise in furniture finishing processes, including staining, painting, and sealing, and the ability to identify related defects.
  • Skilled in the use of standard and precision measuring instruments like tape measures, calipers, and moisture meters.
  • Familiarity with quality control methodologies and standards, such as AQL (Acceptable Quality Limit).
  • Basic computer literacy for data entry and creating inspection reports using software like Microsoft Office (Word, Excel).

Education & Experience

Educational Background

Minimum Education:

Experience Requirements

Typical Experience Range:

  • 2-5 years of direct experience in a quality control, quality assurance, or inspection role.

Preferred:

  • Demonstrated experience within a high-volume furniture manufacturing, distribution, or high-end retail environment is highly desirable. Experience with both case goods and upholstered furniture is a significant plus.
