Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

Perform comprehensive garden and grounds maintenance duties, including planting, weeding, digging, mulching, and edging of flower beds and other landscaped areas to maintain a pristine appearance.
Operate a wide range of hand tools and power equipment, such as commercial-grade mowers, trimmers, blowers, chainsaws, and tillers, ensuring safe and effective use at all times.
Execute turf management programs, which include mowing, fertilization, aeration, dethatching, and overseeding, to maintain a healthy, dense, and aesthetically pleasing lawn.
Skillfully prune and trim trees, shrubs, and hedges according to horticultural best practices to encourage healthy growth, improve plant structure, and remove dead or diseased branches.
Identify common plant diseases, insect pests, and invasive weed species, and implement appropriate integrated pest management (IPM) techniques or approved treatments.
Install new plant material, including annuals, perennials, shrubs, and trees, ensuring proper spacing, planting depth, and soil amendment for optimal establishment and long-term health.
Monitor, operate, and maintain irrigation systems, performing minor repairs and adjustments to sprinkler heads and drip lines to ensure efficient water distribution and conservation.
Prepare soil for planting by tilling, amending with compost or other organic matter, and grading to create a suitable growing environment for new installations.
Apply fertilizers, pesticides, and herbicides safely and effectively, strictly following all label instructions, safety data sheets (SDS), and personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements.
Collect and dispose of leaves, grass clippings, and other garden waste in an environmentally responsible manner, including composting green waste when applicable.
Assist with all seasonal landscape activities, such as intensive spring clean-ups, fall leaf removal, and the winterization of tender plants and irrigation systems.
Maintain the cleanliness, safety, and orderliness of pathways, driveways, patios, and other hardscape features within the assigned area through sweeping, blowing, or pressure washing.
Provide hands-on support for landscape construction projects, including tasks like laying sod, building small retaining walls, or installing garden features under the direction of a supervisor.
Propagate plants through various methods such as seeding, cuttings, or division as directed by a supervisor or as part of a garden development plan.
Conduct regular inspections of plant health and overall landscape condition, proactively identifying and reporting any issues or potential problems to the Lead Gardener or Supervisor.
Maintain accurate daily or weekly records of tasks performed, materials used, and notable observations made during routine activities.
Ensure all tools, equipment, and assigned vehicles are properly cleaned, maintained, inspected, and stored securely at the end of each workday.
Adhere strictly to all company and industry safety standards and procedures to foster a safe work environment and prevent accidents and injuries.
Interact professionally and courteously with clients, residents, or members of the public, answering basic questions about the landscape when appropriate.
Assist in loading and unloading trucks with heavy materials such as plants, soil, mulch, and hardscape supplies required for various projects.
