Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

Perform comprehensive diagnostics and fault-finding on a wide range of domestic and commercial gas appliances, including boilers, water heaters, and cookers.
Conduct annual servicing and safety inspections on central heating systems to ensure optimal performance and compliance.
Execute the installation of new boilers and full central heating systems, adhering to manufacturer instructions and industry best practices.
Respond promptly to emergency breakdown call-outs, identifying and rectifying faults efficiently to restore service.
Carry out Landlord Gas Safety Checks (CP12s), meticulously documenting all findings and issuing certificates.
Install, test, and purge new gas pipework, ensuring all connections are sound and leak-free.
Upgrade existing heating systems, including radiator replacements, system conversions (e.g., conventional to combi), and component updates.
Trace, identify, and repair gas leaks using calibrated gas detection equipment, ensuring the site is left safe.
Commission newly installed gas appliances and systems, completing all necessary benchmark paperwork and registering warranties.
Adhere strictly to Gas Safe regulations, Health & Safety protocols, and company policies on every job.
Advise clients on energy efficiency improvements and the safe operation of their gas appliances and heating controls.
Provide clear, detailed quotations for repairs, replacements, and new installations to customers.
Perform power flushing on central heating systems to remove sludge and improve circulation and efficiency.
Install and configure modern smart heating controls and thermostats, such as Hive, Nest, and Tado.
Read and accurately interpret technical schematics, wiring diagrams, and building plans for installations and repairs.
Work confidently with a diverse portfolio of boiler manufacturers and models, staying current with new technologies.
Complete all job-related digital or paper-based documentation in a timely and accurate manner.
Ensure the customer's property is respected and left in a clean and tidy condition upon job completion.
Perform risk assessments prior to commencing work to identify and mitigate potential hazards.
Collaborate effectively with other tradespeople, such as electricians and plumbers, on larger-scale projects.
Maintain a professional and reassuring demeanor when interacting with customers, especially during stressful breakdown situations.

Secondary Functions

Maintain detailed and accurate digital or paper-based records for all work performed, parts used, and time spent.
Manage and maintain van stock levels to improve first-time fix rates and operational efficiency.
Provide exceptional customer service by explaining complex technical issues in an understandable and transparent way.
Participate in an on-call rota for out-of-hours emergency response, providing critical support to clients.

Required Skills & Competencies

Hard Skills (Technical)

Current ACS Gas Qualifications (CCN1 - Core Domestic Gas Safety is essential).
Relevant Appliance Qualifications (e.g., CENWAT1, CKR1, HTR1).
Gas Safe Registered (a legal requirement).
Proven expertise in fault finding, diagnostics, and repair of various boiler types.
G3 Unvented Hot Water Systems certification is highly desirable.
Strong knowledge of S Plan and Y Plan wiring configurations for heating systems.
Proficiency in pipework installation, including soldering and brazing techniques.
Competent in the use of a Flue Gas Analyser and interpreting the results.
A full, clean driving license.

Education & Experience

Educational Background

Additional certifications like Oftec (for oil systems) or HETAS (for solid fuel).
