Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

Accurately read and record gas consumption data from residential and commercial meters using a specialized handheld electronic device.
Methodically traverse assigned daily routes, which may involve extensive walking (up to several miles) in diverse weather conditions and over varied terrain.
Operate a company-provided vehicle with a strong commitment to safety, adhering to all traffic regulations and company driving policies.
Conduct thorough visual inspections of meters, piping, and related equipment for any signs of damage, defects, corrosion, or unauthorized connections.
Promptly identify and report potential hazards, such as the odor of gas, damaged equipment, or unsafe conditions, following strict emergency protocols.
Efficiently manage and prioritize a daily workload to ensure all assigned meter reads are completed on schedule and within established performance standards.
Provide exceptional customer service during brief public interactions, professionally addressing basic inquiries and escalating complex issues to the correct department.
Maintain the security and integrity of confidential customer data and all company-issued equipment, including handheld devices, vehicles, and access keys.
Safely clear minor obstructions blocking access to meters, such as overgrown vegetation or small debris, while always respecting customer property.
Diligently verify meter serial numbers and service addresses against route data to guarantee data accuracy and prevent billing errors.
Maintain clear and consistent communication with dispatchers and supervisors, providing updates on route progress, delays, or any field-related issues.
Utilize maps and GPS technology to navigate routes effectively and locate meter installations that may be in challenging or unfamiliar locations.
Document and report all instances of inaccessible meters, providing clear reasons such as locked gates, unrestrained animals, or construction.
Perform daily pre-trip and post-trip safety inspections on the assigned company vehicle, reporting any maintenance needs or concerns.
