Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Perform comprehensive planned and unplanned maintenance, including major overhauls, combustion inspections (CI), and hot gas path inspections (HGPI) on heavy-duty and aeroderivative gas turbines.
  • Execute the intricate disassembly, inspection, and reassembly of complex turbine components such as rotors, casings, bearings, and combustion systems, ensuring adherence to OEM specifications.
  • Conduct advanced troubleshooting of complex mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and instrumentation & control (I&C) system failures to identify root causes and implement effective corrective actions.
  • Utilize precision measurement instruments like micrometers, calipers, and dial indicators to verify clearances, tolerances, and alignments are within stringent technical standards.
  • Operate and interpret findings from advanced diagnostic equipment, including video borescopes, vibration analyzers, and laser alignment tools, to assess internal engine health.
  • Read, interpret, and apply technical information from complex engineering drawings, blueprints, piping & instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), and OEM service manuals.
  • Perform the removal, repair, and replacement of major turbine components, including blades, vanes, nozzles, fuel injectors, and transition pieces.
  • Execute the calibration, functional testing, and troubleshooting of a wide array of field instrumentation, including pressure transmitters, temperature sensors, and vibration probes.
  • Manage and maintain tooling inventories, including specialized heavy tooling, lifting equipment, and calibration kits, ensuring they are in safe and working order.
  • Prepare and submit detailed, accurate, and timely field service reports, work completion summaries, and technical recommendations for client review and internal records.
  • Champion and rigorously adhere to all Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) policies, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), confined space entry, and job hazard analysis (JHA) protocols.
  • Provide expert technical direction and guidance to craft labor, contractor crews, and client personnel during maintenance outages and commissioning projects.
  • Conduct root cause analysis (RCA) on equipment failures and operational disruptions, contributing to long-term reliability improvements.
  • Perform operational checks and testing of gas turbine auxiliary systems, including lube oil, fuel gas, cooling water, and fire protection systems.
  • Lead and participate in the commissioning and startup activities for new or refurbished gas turbine installations, ensuring they meet performance criteria.
  • Respond to emergency call-outs and perform rapid-response troubleshooting to minimize plant downtime and production losses.
  • Interface directly with client representatives on-site, providing clear updates on work progress, technical findings, and potential risks.
  • Safely operate heavy lifting and rigging equipment such as overhead cranes and hydraulic gantries for the movement of large turbine components.
  • Maintain a deep working knowledge of various gas turbine control systems, such as GE Mark V/VI/VIe, Siemens T3000/SPPA-T3000, or similar platforms.
  • Ensure all maintenance activities are performed in compliance with local, state, and federal environmental regulations and permits.

  • Mentor and provide on-the-job training to apprentice technicians and less experienced team members, fostering a culture of knowledge sharing.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of maintenance procedures, work instructions, and safety protocols based on field experience.

Required Skills & Competencies

Hard Skills (Technical)

  • Mechanical Systems Expertise: Profound knowledge of rotating equipment, including disassembly, assembly, bearing clearance checks, and torqueing procedures.
  • Electrical & I&C Troubleshooting: Ability to read electrical schematics, troubleshoot control circuits, and understand PLC/HMI logic and instrumentation loops.
  • OEM Turbine Knowledge: In-depth familiarity with the design, operation, and maintenance of major gas turbine models (e.g., GE Frame series, Siemens SGT series, Rolls-Royce, Pratt & Whitney).
  • Precision Tooling & Measurement: High proficiency with precision measurement tools (micrometers, calipers) and advanced diagnostic equipment (borescopes, laser alignment).
  • Rigging & Lifting: Competency and certification in safely planning and executing complex lifts of heavy and sensitive equipment.
  • Control System Interfacing: Experience navigating and troubleshooting issues within OEM gas turbine control systems (e.g., Mark VIe, T3000).
  • Technical Documentation: Skill in reading and interpreting complex P&IDs, mechanical drawings, and electrical one-line diagrams.
  • Root Cause Analysis (RCA): Systematic approach to problem-solving to determine the fundamental cause of equipment failures.
  • Auxiliary Systems Maintenance: Solid understanding of the function and maintenance of lube oil, fuel, hydraulic, and cooling water systems.
  • Technical Report Writing: Ability to clearly and concisely document technical findings, work performed, and recommendations in formal reports.

Education & Experience

Educational Background

Minimum Education:

  • Associate of Applied Science (A.A.S.) or Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in a relevant technical discipline.
