Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Set up, adjust, and operate a variety of gear manufacturing machines, which may include CNC or manual gear hobbers, shapers, grinders, and cutters, to produce high-quality gears.
- Interpret complex engineering blueprints, technical drawings, and Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) specifications to determine machining requirements and setup parameters.
- Select, align, and securely install holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, arbors, and materials onto machines to prepare for production runs.
- Calculate and set machine controls, including speeds, feeds, and depth of cut, to machine parts to precise specifications, often involving complex shop math.
LAGU- Load and unload parts and components from machinery, either manually or with the assistance of overhead cranes or other lifting devices, ensuring proper seating and alignment. - Conduct first-piece, in-process, and final quality inspections using a wide range of precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, calipers, bore gauges, pitch micrometers, and comparators.
- Monitor machine operations in real-time to detect malfunctions, tool wear, or out-of-tolerance machining, and make necessary adjustments to machine controls or offsets to correct any issues.
- Perform timely tool and insert changes as required to maintain dimensional accuracy, surface finish, and overall part quality throughout the production run.
- Deburr and finish machined gear parts using various hand tools and equipment to remove sharp edges and ensure they meet surface finish requirements.
- Meticulously complete all required production and quality control documentation, including setup sheets, inspection logs, and production records, ensuring accuracy and traceability.
- Read and interpret CNC programs (G-code and M-code) to verify correct program selection and understand the machining sequence.
- Verify the conformance of finished workpieces to specifications, frequently using specialized gear checking equipment (e.g., CMM, lead/involute checkers) to measure critical gear tooth geometry.
Secondary Functions
- Perform routine and preventative machine maintenance, including cleaning, lubricating machinery, and checking fluid levels, to ensure optimal performance and operational longevity.
