Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Actively assist skilled tradespeople, technicians, and machine operators by transporting tools, fetching materials, and holding items in place, ensuring they can work without interruption.
  • Perform comprehensive site cleanup duties, including sweeping floors, collecting and disposing of trash and construction debris, and organizing materials to maintain a safe, clean, and orderly work environment.
  • Safely load and unload materials, supplies, and finished products from trucks, shipping containers, and delivery vehicles, either manually or with the use of equipment like pallet jacks and hand trucks.
  • Prepare and set up job sites and work areas at the beginning of each shift and perform breakdown tasks at the end, ensuring all equipment is properly cleaned, stored, and secured.
  • Operate a variety of basic hand tools (hammers, screwdrivers, wrenches) and power tools (drills, saws, grinders) under direct supervision.
  • Transport materials across the worksite to various locations, ensuring the right items get to the right place at the right time.
  • Assemble and break down temporary structures such as scaffolding, barricades, and ramps in accordance with safety protocols.
  • Perform basic assembly tasks, using hands or tools to join parts and components for manufacturing or construction projects.
  • Monitor inventory levels of frequently used supplies and materials, reporting any shortages to the supervisor to prevent work stoppages.
  • Adhere strictly to all company safety policies and procedures, including the proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at all times.
  • Dig, fill, and level trenches and holes using hand tools like shovels and picks for construction or landscaping projects.
  • Mix, pour, and spread concrete, asphalt, or other materials as directed by a supervisor on a construction site.
  • Assist with basic repair and maintenance tasks on equipment and facilities, such as simple painting or minor carpentry.
  • Act as a spotter for heavy equipment operators, using hand signals to ensure safe movement and prevent accidents.
  • Sort and organize materials for recycling, disposal, or reuse, contributing to the site's waste management and environmental goals.

Secondary Functions

  • Perform simple inventory counts and help with basic record-keeping, such as logging materials received or dispatched.
  • Run errands to pick up supplies or parts from local vendors as needed to keep the project moving forward.
  • Provide general assistance with landscaping duties, such as mowing, weeding, or spreading mulch, to maintain facility grounds.
  • Assist in traffic control on and around the worksite by setting up cones and signs or directing vehicles to ensure the safety of pedestrians and workers.
  • Support the setup and teardown for special company events or site inspections, ensuring areas are presentable and functional.

Required Skills & Competencies

Hard Skills (Technical)

  • Physical Stamina & Strength: Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift heavy objects (typically up to 50-75 lbs) repeatedly throughout the day.
  • Hand and Power Tool Proficiency: Basic knowledge and safe operation of common tools like hammers, drills, saws, and grinders.
  • Material Handling: Experience with manual moving equipment such as pallet jacks, dollies, and hand trucks.
  • Basic Measurement Skills: Ability to read a tape measure and perform simple mathematical calculations for cutting or fitting materials.
  • Safety Protocol Adherence: Understanding of fundamental safety rules (e.g., OSHA standards) and the importance of using PPE.
  • Forklift Operation: While not always required, a license or the willingness to be trained is a significant plus.
