Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Perform rigorous physical labor on construction sites, in warehouses, or within manufacturing facilities, including lifting, carrying, and moving heavy materials up to 50-75 lbs.
- Prepare and clean up job sites by removing debris, hazardous materials, and waste to maintain a safe and organized work environment.
- Operate a variety of hand tools (such as shovels, hammers, and saws) and power tools (including drills, grinders, and jackhammers) safely and effectively.
- Assist skilled craft workers, such as carpenters, electricians, and plumbers, by fetching tools, holding materials, and performing other supportive tasks as directed.
- Load and unload trucks, containers, and pallets with supplies, equipment, and finished products, ensuring proper handling and securing of all items.
- Dig trenches, backfill holes, and compact earth to prepare for foundations, piping, or landscaping projects.
- Assemble and disassemble temporary structures, such as scaffolding, barricades, and shoring, in compliance with all safety regulations.
- Mix, pour, and spread concrete, asphalt, and other paving materials using hand or basic power equipment.
- Perform basic demolition tasks, carefully deconstructing walls, flooring, or other structures as instructed by the supervisor.
- Adhere strictly to all company and OSHA safety protocols, including wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times.
- Control traffic passing near, in, and around work zones, using signs, flags, and hand signals to ensure the safety of pedestrians, motorists, and the crew.
- Perform routine maintenance and cleaning on machinery and tools to ensure they remain in good working condition.
- Move materials around the job site using equipment such as pallet jacks, wheelbarrows, and material dollies.
- Follow technical instructions, plans, and blueprints under the guidance of a supervisor to ensure work is completed to specification.
- Sort, stack, and organize raw materials, supplies, and finished goods in designated storage areas.
- Assist in erecting and securing temporary fencing, signs, and other fixtures around the perimeter of the worksite.
- Perform general landscaping and groundskeeping duties, such as mowing, weeding, and clearing brush.
- Identify and report any potential hazards, equipment malfunctions, or safety concerns to the site foreman or supervisor immediately.
- Maintain an accurate log of work performed, materials used, and hours worked for project tracking and reporting.
- Support inventory management by assisting with cycle counts and stocking of materials.
Secondary Functions
- Participate actively in daily safety meetings, toolbox talks, and training sessions to stay current on best practices.
- Provide general support to other departments and teams during peak workloads or on special projects as needed.
- Run occasional errands to pick up necessary supplies, tools, or parts from local vendors.
- Assist with the setup and breakdown of equipment and work areas at the beginning and end of each shift.
Required Skills & Competencies
Hard Skills (Technical)
- Physical Strength & Stamina: Ability to perform strenuous physical tasks, including lifting heavy objects, for extended periods.
- Hand and Power Tool Proficiency: Competent in the safe operation of common construction and maintenance tools.
- Basic Measurement and Math: Ability to take accurate measurements and perform simple calculations for cuts and layouts.
- Site Safety Knowledge: Understanding of job site safety practices and procedures, with OSHA 10 certification being a strong plus.
- Material Handling: Experience with proper lifting techniques and familiarity with using pallet jacks, dollies, and wheelbarrows.
