Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

Perform a variety of physical labor tasks, including digging trenches, backfilling holes, and manually grading earth to prepare sites for construction or landscaping.
Load, unload, and transport construction materials, tools, and equipment to and from work areas, storage facilities, and delivery vehicles.
Operate a range of hand and power tools, such as drills, saws, grinders, and pressure washers, under the direction of a supervisor.
Assist skilled tradespersons, including carpenters, electricians, and plumbers, by fetching tools, holding materials, and performing other supportive duties as assigned.
Erect and dismantle temporary structures like scaffolding, ramps, and barricades in accordance with safety regulations and project plans.
Mix, pour, and spread construction materials such as concrete, asphalt, or grout, ensuring proper consistency and application.
Maintain a clean, safe, and organized job site by regularly sweeping, collecting and disposing of debris, and securing materials to prevent hazards.
Perform demolition activities on renovation projects by safely tearing down walls, removing flooring, and clearing out old fixtures.
Control traffic passing near, in, and around work zones by using signs, signals, and flags to ensure the safety of workers, drivers, and pedestrians.
Follow all company and project-specific safety protocols and procedures, including the proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at all times.
Read and interpret basic site plans, instructions, and specifications to understand task requirements and project goals.
Install and maintain erosion and sediment control measures, such as silt fences and straw bales, to protect the surrounding environment.

Secondary Functions

Perform basic maintenance on tools and equipment, such as cleaning, lubricating, and conducting minor adjustments to ensure they remain in good working order.
Report any safety hazards, incidents, or equipment malfunctions immediately to the site foreman or supervisor.
Assist with the setup and breakdown of the job site at the beginning and end of the workday or project phase.
Water and compact soil, gravel, or other fill materials using plate compactors or hand tampers to create a stable base.
Act as a fire watch during "hot work" activities like welding or cutting, monitoring for sparks and preventing potential fires.
Participate in daily safety meetings (toolbox talks) to stay informed about potential hazards and daily work plans.
Provide support for landscaping activities, including planting, mulching, and installing irrigation systems.
Document work performed and materials used on daily logs or timesheets as required by project management.

Required Skills & Competencies

Hard Skills (Technical)

Material Handling: Proficient in safely lifting, moving, and staging heavy materials, either manually or with basic equipment.
