Primary Functions

  • Provide senior-level leadership and direct oversight for all on-site construction activities across multiple projects or a single, large-scale, and complex project.
  • Develop, maintain, and enforce the master project schedule, ensuring all project milestones and deadlines are met through effective coordination of trades, materials, and equipment.
  • Act as the primary driver for the company's safety culture on-site, implementing and rigorously enforcing all safety protocols and policies (including OSHA) to ensure a zero-incident work environment.
  • Mentor, train, and professionally develop a team of Project Superintendents and Assistant Superintendents, providing consistent guidance, constructive performance feedback, and career growth opportunities.
  • Serve as the main point of contact for high-level client relations on the job site, fostering positive relationships and ensuring client satisfaction by effectively communicating project progress and proactively addressing concerns.
  • Chair critical project meetings, including subcontractor coordination meetings, safety stand-downs, and weekly progress reviews with project management and ownership.
  • Hold ultimate responsibility for on-site quality control and assurance, ensuring all work is performed in strict accordance with contract documents, specifications, and building codes.
  • Collaborate closely with the Project Management team to monitor and control project costs, identify potential risks or cost overruns, and implement corrective actions to maintain budget adherence.
  • Mastermind and execute the overall site logistics plan, including material delivery and storage strategies, site access, temporary utilities, and equipment staging for maximum efficiency and safety.
  • Proactively identify and resolve complex on-site conflicts and constructability issues, leveraging deep technical expertise to provide innovative and cost-effective solutions without project disruption.
  • Review and approve subcontractor schedules, scopes of work, and pay applications to ensure alignment with the overall project plan and contract terms.
  • Generate and present comprehensive daily, weekly, and monthly reports to executive leadership detailing project status, schedule performance, safety incidents, and resource allocation.
  • Directly manage and coordinate the activities of all trade contractors, ensuring seamless workflow, resolving jurisdictional disputes, and holding them accountable for performance and quality.
  • Oversee the entire project closeout process, including punch list generation and completion, final inspections, owner training, and the turnover of as-built documents and warranties.
  • Drive the implementation and adoption of construction technology (e.g., Procore, Bluebeam, BIM) on-site to improve communication, documentation, and overall project efficiency.
  • Analyze and interpret complex construction drawings, specifications, and submittals to ensure all field personnel and subcontractors are building to the correct standards.
  • Establish and maintain professional, working relationships with local building officials and inspectors to facilitate timely inspections and permit approvals.
  • Take a lead role in pre-construction efforts by providing critical input on constructability, scheduling, and logistics during the design and bidding phases.
  • Manage all aspects of job site administration, including overseeing the proper handling of daily logs, RFIs (Requests for Information), submittals, and change orders, ensuring meticulous documentation.
  • Develop and implement recovery schedules to mitigate the impact of delays caused by weather, material shortages, or other unforeseen circumstances, communicating impacts to all stakeholders.
  • Champion a culture of continuous improvement by identifying and implementing new construction methods, tools, and processes that enhance productivity, safety, and quality.

Required Skills & Competencies

Hard Skills (Technical)

  • Advanced Scheduling Software Proficiency: Mastery of Primavera P6 and/or Microsoft Project for creating and managing complex, multi-trade construction schedules.
  • Construction Management Software: Expertise in platforms like Procore, PlanGrid, or similar for project documentation, communication, and management.
  • Advanced Blueprint & Specification Interpretation: The ability to read, analyze, and interpret highly complex architectural and engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Cost Management & Financial Acumen: Deep understanding of project budgeting, cost tracking, and financial reporting as it relates to field operations.
  • Safety Regulation Expertise: In-depth knowledge of OSHA standards and other relevant safety regulations, typically holding OSHA 30 or OSHA 500 certification.

Education & Experience

Educational Background

Minimum Education:

  • High School Diploma or GED, coupled with extensive, progressive field leadership experience.

Experience Requirements

Typical Experience Range: 10-15+ years of progressive experience in commercial construction field management.

Preferred: A proven track record of successfully serving as the lead Superintendent or General Superintendent on multiple large-scale, complex projects (typically valued at $50M+) from start to finish. Demonstrable experience leading and managing teams of multiple superintendents is highly desirable.
