Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Design, plan, and oversee the acquisition of geophysical data (seismic, gravity, magnetic, electromagnetic) to meet specific project objectives for resource exploration or site characterization.
- Perform rigorous quality control (QC) and pre-processing of raw geophysical field data to ensure data integrity and usability for subsequent analysis.
- Process complex 2D, 3D, and 4D seismic datasets using advanced workflows, including noise attenuation, velocity model building, and pre-stack depth/time migration.
- Conduct comprehensive seismic interpretation of structural and stratigraphic features to identify potential hydrocarbon traps, geothermal resources, or geological hazards.
- Develop and calibrate rock physics models to link seismic properties (like impedance and Vp/Vs) to reservoir rock and fluid properties (like porosity, lithology, and saturation).
- Perform seismic attribute analysis, including AVO (Amplitude Versus Offset) and seismic inversion (acoustic, elastic) to predict reservoir quality and delineate fluid distributions.
- Integrate seismic data with well log data, geological information, and core data to build cohesive and geologically plausible subsurface models.
- Develop detailed velocity models for depth conversion, ensuring accurate structural and volumetric assessments of subsurface targets.
- Evaluate and quantify subsurface uncertainty and risk through the application of probabilistic methods and sensitivity analysis on geophysical interpretations and models.
- Collaborate closely with geologists and reservoir engineers to build and update static reservoir models, providing critical input for field development planning and well placement.
- Utilize advanced geophysical techniques, such as seismic geomechanics and 4D time-lapse analysis, to monitor reservoir changes during production and optimize recovery strategies.
- Develop and apply novel processing, interpretation, and quantitative interpretation (QI) workflows, potentially incorporating machine learning and AI techniques to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
- Assess the economic and technical viability of exploration prospects by generating maps, calculating volumetric estimates, and contributing to risk analysis reports.
- Prepare and present detailed technical reports, presentations, and recommendations to multidisciplinary teams, management, and external partners.
