Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Acquire, process, and manage diverse geospatial datasets from various sources, including public repositories, commercial vendors, and internal databases, while rigorously ensuring data quality and integrity.
  • Perform complex spatial analysis and geoprocessing tasks, such as suitability modeling, network analysis, proximity analysis, and spatial statistics to identify significant patterns and trends.
  • Design and produce high-quality, visually compelling cartographic products, including thematic maps, web maps, and interactive dashboards for both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Develop and automate complex geospatial workflows and analytical processes using scripting languages, primarily Python (with libraries like ArcPy, GeoPandas, and Rasterio), to improve efficiency and repeatability.
  • Manage and maintain enterprise geospatial databases (e.g., Esri geodatabases, PostGIS), including data loading, schema design, access control, and performance optimization.
  • Interpret and analyze remote sensing data, including satellite and aerial imagery, to conduct feature extraction, land cover classification, and change detection analysis.
  • Provide technical expertise and end-user support on GIS software and applications, including the Esri suite (ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, Enterprise) and key open-source tools (QGIS).
  • Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, including data scientists, engineers, and business stakeholders, to integrate geospatial insights into broader analytical projects and business strategies.
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive metadata and documentation for all geospatial data, models, and processes to ensure transparency, reproducibility, and knowledge sharing.
  • Conduct high-volume geocoding and reverse geocoding of address data, troubleshooting issues and ensuring a high level of spatial accuracy for location-based services and analysis.
  • Prepare and present clear, concise reports, visualizations, and formal presentations that communicate complex spatial findings and strategic recommendations to project managers and leadership.
  • Support field data collection activities by designing data schemas, configuring mobile data collection applications (e.g., Field Maps, Survey123), and processing the resulting data.
  • Perform rigorous quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) checks on all geospatial data to identify and correct errors, inconsistencies, and topological issues.
  • Stay abreast of emerging trends, innovative technologies, and best practices in the geospatial industry and evaluate their potential application to enhance organizational capabilities.
  • Create, publish, and manage web-based mapping applications and services that allow end-users to interact with and explore geospatial data in an intuitive way.
  • Translate complex business questions and ambiguous requirements into well-defined geospatial analysis projects with clear objectives, methodologies, and deliverables.
  • Provide subject-matter expert training and guidance to other team members or departments on the use of GIS tools and the proper interpretation of spatial data.
  • Analyze spatial distributions of demographic, economic, or environmental data to support critical business functions like market analysis, site selection, or risk assessment projects.
  • Author and maintain technical documentation for GIS applications, geodatabases, and analytical models.
  • Participate in the design and implementation of GIS data management solutions, including versioning, archiving, and backup strategies.

Required Skills & Competencies

Hard Skills (Technical)

  • Advanced GIS Software Proficiency: Deep expertise in the Esri ecosystem (ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, ArcGIS Enterprise) and strong capability with open-source alternatives like QGIS.
  • Spatial Analysis & Modeling: Demonstrated ability to perform a wide range of vector and raster analysis, including network analysis, density analysis, suitability modeling, and geostatistics.
  • Geospatial Scripting: Strong programming skills in Python for automating geoprocessing tasks, manipulating data, and building custom tools, using libraries such as ArcPy, GeoPandas, and Rasterio.
  • Database Management: Solid understanding of and experience with relational databases, particularly spatial extensions like PostGIS or Esri SDE, including writing complex SQL queries for data extraction and manipulation.
  • Remote Sensing & Image Analysis: Working knowledge of the principles of remote sensing and experience processing and analyzing satellite or aerial imagery for classification and feature extraction.

Educational Background
