Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Perform comprehensive quality control (QC) and quality assurance (QA) checks on incoming geospatial datasets to ensure they meet established data standards and business rules.
- Meticulously validate the spatial accuracy, attribute completeness, and logical consistency of GIS data submitted by internal teams and external contractors.

- Systematically manage and correct topological errors within vector datasets, including identifying and resolving overlaps, gaps, dangles, and improper intersections in network data.
- Verify the georeferencing accuracy and projection parameters of raster and vector data to ensure correct alignment with basemaps and other authoritative datasets.
- Cross-reference and reconcile geospatial data from multiple, disparate sources to create a single, cohesive, and authoritative dataset free of contradictions.
- Clearly and effectively communicate data quality issues, findings, and required corrections to data collection teams, field crews, and data engineers to facilitate timely resolution.
- Develop, maintain, and enforce the organization's geospatial data quality standards, acceptance criteria, and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Track data quality metrics over time, generating regular reports and dashboards to highlight trends, common error types, and the overall health of the GIS data repository.
- Review, edit, and enrich metadata records to ensure they are complete, accurate, and compliant with FGDC or ISO standards, providing essential context for data users.
- Participate actively in the testing and evaluation of new GIS applications, tools, and workflows to ensure they uphold data integrity and do not introduce errors.
- Manage the formal data acceptance and sign-off process, ensuring all datasets have passed quality checks before being promoted to the production environment.
- Investigate and flag spatial anomalies, attribute outliers, and other unusual patterns that may indicate systemic data collection or processing issues.
- Ensure that all GIS data conforms to industry-specific data models and schemas, such as those for utilities (e.g., UPDM), telecommunications, or local government.
- Collaborate with GIS analysts and developers to define and refine the business logic and rules used in automated data validation checks.

Required Skills & Competencies
Hard Skills (Technical)
