Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Execute the professional installation of various glass products, including insulated glass units (IGUs), tempered, and laminated glass, into frames, sashes, or openings on both interior and exterior applications.
- Precisely measure job sites and openings for glass, frames, and other materials, ensuring all dimensions are accurate before fabrication or ordering.
- Interpret and work from architectural blueprints, shop drawings, and technical specifications to determine project requirements and installation procedures.
- Install and secure pre-fabricated metal frames, such as aluminum storefronts, curtain walls, and window systems, ensuring they are plumb, level, and square.
- Apply sealants, caulking, and weather-stripping around glass panels and frames to provide a watertight and airtight seal, preventing moisture and air intrusion.
- Safely and efficiently remove old or broken glass and framing systems prior to the installation of new units, ensuring minimal damage to surrounding structures.
- Operate and maintain a variety of hand and power tools, including glass cutters, grinders, drills, saws, and caulking guns, with a focus on safety and precision.
- Utilize specialized lifting and setting equipment, such as cranes, vacuum lifters, and scissor lifts, for handling and positioning large or heavy glass panels.
- Fabricate and install custom glass systems, including all-glass entrances, shower enclosures, glass railings, and decorative mirrored walls.
- Conduct thorough inspections of completed work to ensure it meets project specifications, quality standards, and building code requirements.
- Collaborate effectively with project managers, site supervisors, and other trade professionals to coordinate installation schedules and resolve on-site challenges.
- Adhere strictly to all company and OSHA safety protocols, including the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and safe glass handling techniques.
- Load and unload glass, frames, and equipment from trucks, ensuring all materials are transported securely to and from the job site.
- Perform service calls to diagnose, repair, and replace faulty or damaged glass, hardware, and sealing on existing window and door systems.
- Set glass in a variety of settings, including wood, steel, and aluminum frames, using the appropriate setting blocks, gaskets, and glazing compounds.
- Manage on-site inventory of materials, hardware, and consumables, communicating needs to the project manager to avoid delays.
- Provide clear and professional communication with clients on-site to provide updates, answer questions, and ensure customer satisfaction.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex installation issues, such as out-of-square openings, challenging access, or incompatible materials.
- Assemble and install complex curtain wall and window wall systems, including pressure plates, cover caps, and structural silicone glazing (SSG).
- Prepare and clean surfaces thoroughly before applying sealants and adhesives to ensure proper adhesion and a long-lasting, professional finish.
Secondary Functions

Required Skills & Competencies
Hard Skills (Technical)

- Expertise in installing commercial storefronts, curtain walls, and window wall systems (e.g., Kawneer, YKK, Tubelite).
- Advanced knowledge of glass types (annealed, tempered, laminated, IGU) and their proper handling and application.
- Skilled in precision cutting, drilling, and shaping of glass and aluminum framing materials.
- Mastery of caulking and sealant application for waterproofing and weatherproofing (silicone, urethane).
- Safe operation of power tools, saws, drills, and specialized glazing equipment.
- Experience with door hardware installation, including pivots, closers, and panic devices.
- Certified and experienced in operating aerial work platforms like scissor lifts and boom lifts.
- Strong understanding of job site safety standards and OSHA regulations (OSHA 10/30 preferred).
