Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Provide direct, hands-on assistance to Senior Refiners in executing multi-stage chemical refining processes, including the use of aqua regia and other leaching agents.
  • Accurately weigh, record, and prepare lots of incoming precious metal-bearing materials, such as jewelry scrap, industrial components, and doré bars, for the smelting process.
  • Safely operate high-temperature induction and gas-fired furnaces to melt and homogenize materials, carefully monitoring temperatures and cycle times.
  • Take representative samples from molten metals using appropriate techniques to ensure the material is ready for accurate laboratory assaying.
  • Execute the pouring of molten metal into various forms, including grain, anodes, or bars, ensuring product meets specific shape and weight specifications.
  • Operate and maintain filtration systems, pumps, and reactors used in the chemical separation and precipitation of gold from solution.
  • Meticulously monitor and document all critical process parameters, including temperatures, pressures, chemical additions, and timings in detailed production logs.
  • Perform routine cleaning, inspection, and preventative maintenance on refinery equipment, including furnaces, crucibles, ventilation hoods, and chemical tanks.
  • Handle and transfer hazardous chemicals and acids according to strict safety data sheet (SDS) guidelines and company protocols, utilizing all required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Manage the drying, washing, and consolidation of precipitated gold powder in preparation for the final melting and casting stage.
  • Uphold the highest standards of material security and accountability by participating in regular inventory counts and tracking all movements of precious metals within the refinery.
  • Operate material handling equipment, such as forklifts, pallet jacks, and overhead cranes, to safely move raw materials, supplies, and finished products.
  • Maintain a meticulously clean and organized work environment to prevent cross-contamination and ensure a safe operational area for the entire team.
  • Assist in the preparation and neutralization of waste streams and effluent, ensuring full compliance with all environmental regulations.
  • Respond promptly and effectively to process alarms or deviations, troubleshooting basic issues under the guidance of a Senior Refiner.

Secondary Functions

  • Support the inventory management of essential refinery consumables, including chemicals, fluxes, safety supplies, and crucible stocks, by tracking usage and reporting low levels.
  • Participate actively in daily team meetings, safety briefings, and process improvement discussions, offering observations and suggestions for enhancing efficiency and safety.
  • Assist the quality control department by preparing samples for analysis and performing basic physical or chemical tests as directed.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) by providing feedback on existing processes and helping to document new ones.
  • Support periodic facility-wide safety inspections and environmental compliance audits by providing information and access to refinery areas.
  • Play a supporting role during security protocols for vaulting and transporting high-value materials, ensuring all procedures are followed without deviation.
