Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Conduct in-depth, one-on-one custom fitting sessions for a full range of golf clubs, including drivers, fairway woods, hybrids, irons, wedges, and putters.
  • Utilize and interpret data from industry-leading launch monitor technologies (e.g., TrackMan, GCQuad, Foresight) to analyze a client's swing, ball flight, and performance metrics.
  • Educate clients on the cause-and-effect relationship between their swing dynamics and the resulting data, translating complex information into understandable insights.
  • Provide brand-agnostic equipment recommendations based purely on performance data and the individual golfer's needs, preferences, and budget.
  • Expertly measure static and dynamic specifications such as length, lie angle, loft, swing weight, and shaft frequency to ensure precise club builds.
  • Guide customers through the selection process for club heads, shafts, and grips from a wide variety of leading manufacturers.
  • Develop a strong understanding of each client's golfing history, physical abilities or limitations, and on-course goals to provide a truly personalized fitting experience.
  • Manage the fitting schedule and appointment calendar to ensure a seamless and professional customer journey from booking to follow-up.
  • Assemble, adjust, and repair golf clubs to exact specifications, including tasks like re-shafting, re-gripping, loft and lie adjustments, and swing weighting.
  • Achieve and exceed personal and team sales goals by converting fitting sessions into equipment sales through a consultative, non-pressure approach.
  • Maintain an expert-level knowledge of current and upcoming golf equipment technology, product lines, and performance benefits across all major brands.
  • Stay current with industry trends, fitting methodologies, and best practices by attending training sessions, webinars, and certification programs.
  • Ensure the fitting bay and surrounding areas are kept clean, organized, and stocked with all necessary tools, components, and demonstration equipment.
  • Build and maintain a loyal client base by fostering strong relationships and providing exceptional, memorable service that encourages repeat business and referrals.
  • Follow up with clients post-fitting to ensure satisfaction with their new equipment and answer any subsequent questions.
  • Accurately process customer orders, manage special orders, and ensure timely communication regarding build times and delivery.
  • Use point-of-sale (POS) and customer relationship management (CRM) systems to track sales, manage client data, and document fitting details.
  • Troubleshoot equipment performance issues with clients and identify whether the root cause is a technique or equipment specification problem.
  • Conduct comprehensive putter fittings, analyzing stroke mechanics, aim, and roll characteristics to recommend the ideal putter style, length, and weighting.
  • Participate in and provide expert support for special events, including manufacturer demo days, fitting events, and trade shows.

Secondary Functions

  • Assist with general sales floor coverage, customer service, and operational duties during non-fitting periods.
  • Contribute to store merchandising efforts, ensuring that golf equipment displays are clean, attractive, and accurately priced.
  • Participate in regular inventory counts and help manage stock levels of club heads, shafts, grips, and other components.
  • Mentor and provide guidance to junior fitters or sales associates who are developing their product knowledge and fitting skills.

Required Skills & Competencies

Hard Skills (Technical)

  • Launch Monitor Proficiency: Expertise in operating and interpreting data from key launch monitors like TrackMan, GCQuad, and Foresight Sports.
  • Club Building & Repair: Hands-on ability to perform all aspects of club assembly and modification, including gripping, shafting (epoxy and extraction), and loft/lie adjustments.
  • Deep Product Knowledge: Comprehensive understanding of the features, benefits, and performance characteristics of clubs, shafts, and grips from all major OEMs (Titleist, Callaway, TaylorMade, PING, etc.).
  • Swing Analysis: Ability to visually and analytically assess the golf swing to diagnose common faults and relate them to equipment needs.
  • Fitting Software Fluency: Proficiency in using brand-specific or universal fitting software to compare options and identify optimal club setups.
  • Understanding of Ball Flight Laws: Solid knowledge of the D-Plane and the relationships between club path, face angle, angle of attack, and ball flight outcomes.

Education & Experience

Educational Background

Minimum Education:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.

Preferred Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree.
  • PGA/LPGA Membership or Associate in good standing.
  • Certification from a recognized club fitting academy (e.g., GolfWorks, Mitchell Golf School) or major manufacturer (e.g., Titleist Performance Institute - TPI).

Relevant Fields of Study:

Experience Requirements

Typical Experience Range: 2-7 years of combined experience in the golf industry.

Preferred:

  • 2+ years of dedicated, hands-on experience in a club fitting role using launch monitor technology.
  • Proven track record of meeting or exceeding sales targets in a golf retail or pro shop environment.
  • Experience in a club repair or club building capacity.
