Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Oversee all aspects of golf course maintenance and agronomic operations in close collaboration with the Golf Course Superintendent to ensure consistent, championship-level playing conditions.
  • Develop, manage, and meticulously track the annual budgets for golf operations, course maintenance, and capital improvement projects, ensuring adherence to financial targets and profitability goals.
  • Direct and manage all golf operations staff, including the recruitment, hiring, training, scheduling, performance management, and professional development of assistant professionals, pro shop staff, starters, and rangers.
  • Drive revenue growth through the strategic management of tee times, creative tournament sales, corporate outing packages, dynamic merchandise sales, and comprehensive golf instruction programs.
  • Maintain a high level of visibility and personal engagement with members and guests, proactively soliciting feedback and resolving concerns to ensure exceptional satisfaction and foster a welcoming club culture.
  • Develop and flawlessly execute a comprehensive tournament schedule for members, guests, and corporate clients, managing all logistical aspects from initial promotion and registration to scoring and prize presentation.
  • Manage the entire pro shop retail operation, including strategic inventory control, vendor negotiations, creative merchandising, and data-driven pricing strategies to maximize sales and profit margins.
  • Ensure strict compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations, encompassing environmental standards for chemical applications, labor laws, and health and safety protocols across all departments.
  • Lead the development and implementation of short-term and long-range strategic plans for the golf operation, ensuring alignment with the club's overarching vision and strategic objectives.
  • Manage the entire golf cart fleet, including preventative maintenance schedules, daily cleaning procedures, secure storage, and long-term replacement planning to ensure safety, reliability, and impeccable presentation.
  • Collaborate effectively with other department heads, particularly Food & Beverage and Membership Sales, to create seamless, integrated member experiences and innovative cross-promotional opportunities.
  • Oversee the club's handicap system, ensuring full compliance with USGA rules and maintaining accurate, transparent records for all participating members.
  • Develop, communicate, and consistently enforce all golf course policies, rules, and regulations to ensure a smooth pace of play and an enjoyable, equitable experience for all golfers.
  • Direct and actively promote all golf-related activities, including competitive leagues, instructional clinics, and social golf events, with the goal of increasing member participation and engagement.
  • Prepare and present detailed monthly and quarterly financial and operational reports for the General Manager, Board of Directors, or ownership, providing insightful analysis and strategic recommendations for improvement.

  • Assist the membership committee with prospective member tours and information sessions, expertly showcasing the value, quality, and unique aspects of the golf experience.
  • Develop and contribute to marketing and communication strategies for the golf operation, including creating engaging content for member newsletters, social media channels, and the club website.
  • Stay current with evolving industry trends in golf management, agronomy, equipment, and instructional technology to drive continuous improvement and innovation at the facility.
  • Mentor junior staff and assistant professionals, providing clear pathways for career growth and fostering a culture of professional development within the team.

Required Skills & Competencies

Hard Skills (Technical)

  • Financial Acumen & Budget Management: Expertise in developing, managing, and reporting on complex budgets (operational and capital), P&L statements, and financial forecasting.
  • Agronomy & Turfgrass Management Knowledge: A strong foundational understanding of turf science, irrigation systems, pest/disease control, and modern course maintenance practices.
  • Golf Operations Management: Mastery of tee sheet management, pace-of-play strategies, USGA rules, tournament operations (scoring, formats, logistics), and golf car fleet management.
  • Retail & Merchandising Skills: Proven ability in inventory management (Open-to-Buy planning), visual merchandising, product sourcing, and achieving sales targets in a pro shop environment.
  • Proficiency with Industry Software: Hands-on experience with modern Point-of-Sale (POS) systems, tee time management software (e.g., ForeTees, Chelsea), and tournament software (e.g., Golf Genius).
  • PGA Class A Certification: Formal certification is highly preferred, demonstrating a high level of expertise in golf instruction, club management, and the rules of golf.

Education & Experience

Educational Background

Minimum Education:
