Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Welcome and greet all members and guests with a positive and professional demeanor, setting the tone for their entire golf experience.
  • Expertly assist customers with merchandise selections, providing detailed product knowledge on golf equipment, apparel, and accessories to drive sales.
  • Process customer transactions accurately and efficiently using the Point of Sale (POS) system, including sales, returns, and exchanges.
  • Manage the tee sheet and reservation system with precision, booking tee times, checking in golfers, and coordinating play to optimize course flow.
  • Answer incoming phone calls promptly and professionally, addressing inquiries about tee times, course conditions, products, and services.
  • Maintain an in-depth understanding of all golf shop products, new arrivals, and promotions to effectively upsell and cross-sell to customers.
  • Ensure the golf shop is visually appealing at all times by creating attractive merchandise displays, restocking shelves, and maintaining a clean, organized environment.
  • Assist in receiving, pricing, and ticketing new inventory, ensuring all merchandise is accounted for and displayed in a timely manner.
  • Provide information on club events, tournaments, and golf instruction programs, actively promoting participation to members and guests.
  • Handle special orders for customers, including items for custom club fitting, personalized gear, and products not currently in stock.
  • Manage the golf cart and rental club fleet, ensuring they are clean, charged, and ready for use, while processing rental transactions correctly.
  • Address customer questions, concerns, and complaints with empathy and professionalism, seeking resolutions to ensure customer satisfaction.
  • Communicate effectively with other golf operations staff, such as starters, rangers, and golf professionals, to ensure a seamless guest experience.
  • Assist with opening and closing procedures for the golf shop, including cash handling, reconciling daily sales, and securing the premises.
  • Actively engage customers to build rapport and foster a loyal customer base, remembering repeat guests and their preferences.

Secondary Functions

  • Assist the Head Golf Professional or Merchandiser with periodic physical inventory counts and cycle counts to ensure stock accuracy.
  • Provide support for golf tournaments and events, including registration, scoring, prize distribution, and on-course assistance as needed.
  • Contribute to the shop's online presence by assisting with social media posts, email newsletters, or website updates related to new products and promotions.
  • Gather and relay customer feedback regarding merchandise, pricing, and overall experience to management to inform future business decisions.

Required Skills & Competencies

Hard Skills (Technical)

  • Proficiency with Point of Sale (POS) systems (e.g., Lightspeed, ForeTees, Jonas).
  • Experience with tee time management and golf course booking software.
  • Strong product knowledge of major golf brands (e.g., Titleist, Callaway, TaylorMade, Ping).
  • Foundational understanding of golf equipment specifications (loft, lie, shaft flex, etc.).
  • Basic club repair skills, such as re-gripping and simple adjustments.
  • Secure cash handling and credit card processing procedures.
  • Familiarity with inventory control principles and retail management software.
  • Visual merchandising and retail display techniques to create an inviting shop.
  • Competency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel) for basic reporting and communication.
