Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Develop and execute a comprehensive agronomic plan encompassing all aspects of turfgrass management, including fertilization, soil conditioning, cultivation, and integrated pest management to ensure elite playing surfaces.
- Direct and oversee all daily, weekly, and monthly maintenance activities on the golf course, including mowing patterns, course setup, bunker maintenance, and aerification schedules.
- Formulate, manage, and control the golf course maintenance budget, meticulously tracking expenses, forecasting needs, and preparing detailed financial reports for the General Manager and Greens Committee.
- Recruit, hire, train, schedule, and supervise the entire golf course maintenance staff, fostering a culture of safety, excellence, and continuous professional development.
- Manage the procurement, inventory, preventative maintenance, and repair of all golf course maintenance equipment to ensure operational readiness and maximize asset lifespan.
- Oversee the operation and maintenance of a sophisticated, computer-controlled irrigation system, conducting regular audits and adjustments to optimize water usage and ensure turf health.
- Plan, coordinate, and supervise all capital improvement projects, including golf course construction, renovations, drainage installation, and landscape enhancements, often in collaboration with architects and contractors.
- Ensure the club is in full compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations pertaining to pesticide application, environmental standards, water usage, and workplace safety (OSHA).
- Maintain meticulous records of all agronomic practices, chemical applications, weather data, and inventory to support data-driven decision-making and regulatory reporting.
- Proactively communicate with the General Manager, Head Golf Professional, and club members regarding course conditions, maintenance schedules, and upcoming projects through newsletters, meetings, and digital updates.
- Develop and implement programs for the care and maintenance of all non-turf areas, including trees, ornamental plantings, water features, and native areas to enhance the course's overall aesthetic appeal.
- Supervise the proper calibration of all application equipment and the safe handling, storage, and application of all fertilizers, pesticides, and other chemical products.
- Monitor turfgrass health daily, identifying and diagnosing potential issues with disease, insect pressure, or environmental stress, and implementing timely and effective corrective actions.
- Prepare the golf course for all club tournaments and special events, working closely with the golf staff to deliver specific conditioning and setup requirements.
Secondary Functions
- Collaborate with the General Manager and Head Golf Professional on long-range strategic planning and the development of the club's annual business plan.
- Serve as a key liaison to the Greens Committee, preparing agendas, presenting reports, and providing expert guidance on agronomic matters.
- Stay current with the latest advancements in turfgrass science, equipment technology, and sustainable maintenance practices through continuing education and industry networking (e.g., GCSAA events).
- Manage relationships with vendors, negotiating pricing and service contracts for supplies, equipment, and specialty services to ensure the best value for the club.
- Lead the maintenance department's response to extreme weather events, creating and executing plans for course protection and recovery.
- Develop and manage a comprehensive snow removal plan for club grounds during winter months, as geography dictates.
- Foster a positive and professional relationship with members, being visible on the course and responsive to their feedback and inquiries regarding course conditions.
Required Skills & Competencies
Hard Skills (Technical)
- Advanced Turfgrass Management: Expert knowledge of various turfgrass species (e.g., Bentgrass, Bermuda, Poa Annua), including their unique cultural and chemical requirements.
- Pesticide & Fertilizer Management: Must possess (or be able to obtain) a state pesticide applicator's license and have deep knowledge of product selection, calibration, and application techniques.
- Irrigation System Expertise: Proficiency in managing, programming, and troubleshooting advanced irrigation systems (e.g., Toro Lynx, Rain Bird Cirrus).

Education & Experience
Educational Background
Minimum Education:
