As a Goods Handler Assistant, you are the backbone of our logistics and fulfillment center. Your primary mission is the precise and efficient physical management of our inventory. Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Safely and efficiently load and unload freight, parcels, and materials from trucks, trailers, and shipping containers, utilizing proper lifting techniques and material handling equipment.
- Accurately pick customer orders from designated warehouse bins and shelves using a pick list or RF scanner, ensuring the correct item and quantity are selected.
- Prepare and pack orders for shipment by selecting appropriate packing materials, securing items to prevent damage, and ensuring all contents are correct per the packing slip.
- Operate handheld RF scanners and other warehouse management system (WMS) hardware to track inventory movement, process shipments, and update stock levels in real-time.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment by adhering to all company safety protocols, sweeping aisles, removing debris, and organizing materials.
- Sort and place incoming materials or items on racks, shelves, or in bins according to predetermined sequences such as product code, size, type, or color.
- Operate manual and electric pallet jacks, dollies, and hand trucks to move inventory and supplies throughout the warehouse facility.
- Inspect incoming and outgoing shipments for defects, damages, or shortages, and promptly document and report any discrepancies to the warehouse supervisor.
- Affix shipping labels, packing slips, bills of lading, and other required documentation to outbound packages to ensure accurate routing and delivery.
- Collaborate effectively with fellow warehouse associates, equipment operators, and supervisors to ensure a smooth and efficient workflow across all operational areas.
- Strive to meet and exceed established productivity and quality standards for picking, packing, and shipping activities to support overall team and company objectives.
- Perform regular quality control checks on packed orders to verify accuracy, completeness, and adherence to customer specifications before they are dispatched.
- Consistently adhere to all occupational health and safety (OSHA) regulations, including the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and safe material handling procedures.
- Securely wrap loaded pallets with stretch film, either manually or using an automated wrapping machine, to stabilize loads for safe transportation and storage.
Secondary Functions
- Participate actively in regular cycle counts and full physical inventory audits to help maintain precise inventory records and identify variances.
- Process and document customer returns, inspecting merchandise for condition and accurately restocking items into the appropriate inventory locations.
- Assemble crates, containers, and product displays as needed for bulk shipments or special projects, ensuring they are structurally sound.
- Replenish active picking locations with stock from bulk storage areas to ensure inventory is continuously available for efficient order fulfillment.
- Maintain clear and accurate logs and records of daily activities, including units handled, orders processed, and tasks completed, using both digital and manual systems.
- Assist in managing warehouse waste and recycling programs by correctly sorting cardboard, plastics, and other recyclable materials in designated containers.
- Communicate any potential hazards, equipment malfunctions, or operational roadblocks to the team lead or supervisor in a timely manner.
- Provide support for special projects and other ad-hoc tasks as assigned by the warehouse management team to support dynamic business needs.
