A Goods Processor is responsible for the entire lifecycle of merchandise within the facility, from unloading and verifying inbound freight to meticulously sorting, tagging, and staging items for the sales floor or outbound shipment. Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Diligently unload and unpack inbound freight from trucks and containers, either manually or using material handling equipment like pallet jacks.
- Methodically inspect all incoming merchandise for physical damage, defects, or shortages, and accurately document any discrepancies.
- Cross-reference received goods against purchase orders and shipping manifests to verify the accuracy of SKUs, quantities, and product details.
- Utilize handheld RF scanning devices to meticulously track the movement of inventory from receiving to its designated back-stock or sales floor location.
- Expertly sort and categorize a wide variety of products based on department, SKU, brand, or other specified criteria for efficient staging.
- Meticulously apply price tags, security sensors, and other essential labels to merchandise, ensuring full compliance with company presentation standards.
- Prepare and organize processed goods onto carts, pallets, or other transport methods for seamless movement to the next stage in the workflow.
- Maintain a high level of accuracy in all tasks to support precise inventory management and prevent loss or shrinkage.
- Operate material handling equipment (MHE) such as manual/electric pallet jacks and dollies in a safe and proficient manner to move heavy loads.
- Pick and fulfill orders for store replenishment or e-commerce customers, ensuring the correct items and quantities are selected with precision.
- Securely pack and prepare items for outbound shipment, selecting appropriate packaging materials to prevent damage during transit.
- Consistently meet or exceed established daily and weekly productivity targets for units processed per hour without sacrificing quality.
- Adhere strictly to all workplace safety (OSHA) regulations and company protocols to maintain a hazard-free work environment for yourself and your team.
Secondary Functions
- Actively participate in regular inventory cycle counts and full physical inventory audits to help maintain the integrity of the stock ledger.
- Assist in processing customer returns, which includes inspecting the condition of the item and determining its path for resale, return-to-vendor, or disposition.
- Maintain the cleanliness and organization of the processing area, including breaking down cardboard boxes and properly disposing of waste and recycling.
- Communicate effectively with supervisors and team members regarding workflow bottlenecks, supply shortages, or any emerging operational issues.
- Collaborate closely with other departments, including stock, sales, and logistics teams, to ensure a smooth and continuous flow of goods.
- Provide support in training new team members on standard operating procedures (SOPs) and best practices for goods processing.
- Identify and recommend potential process improvements that could enhance efficiency, improve safety, or reduce operational costs.
- Monitor and replenish processing station supplies such as tagging guns, labels, boxes, and tape to prevent workflow interruptions.
