Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Develop, execute, and refine a comprehensive government relations strategy to proactively represent and advocate for the organization's interests before local, state, and federal government entities.
  • Cultivate, maintain, and strengthen relationships with elected officials, legislative staff, agency personnel, and key policymakers to create open channels of communication and foster a favorable policy environment.
  • Actively monitor, track, and analyze proposed legislation, regulations, and policy changes at all levels of government to assess their potential impact on the organization's operations, strategy, and market position.
  • Represent the organization at legislative hearings, regulatory meetings, industry association conferences, and other public forums to articulate our positions and influence policy outcomes.
  • Advise executive leadership and cross-functional teams on political, legislative, and regulatory risks and opportunities, providing strategic guidance and actionable recommendations.
  • Manage all aspects of the organization's lobbying activities, ensuring strict compliance with all federal, state, and local lobbying disclosure laws, ethics regulations, and reporting requirements.
  • Identify and pursue opportunities for government grants, funding, partnerships, and procurement contracts that align with the organization's strategic initiatives.
  • Coordinate and collaborate with internal departments, including Legal, Communications, Operations, and Finance, to ensure a unified and consistent approach to government engagement.
  • Organize and facilitate high-level meetings, site visits, and events between company executives and government officials to build rapport and advance specific policy objectives.
  • Develop and manage strategic alliances with trade associations, industry coalitions, and other external stakeholders to build consensus and amplify advocacy efforts.
  • Respond promptly and accurately to inquiries from government offices, regulatory bodies, and legislative committees, serving as the primary point of contact for official information requests.
  • Lead the organization’s response to government consultations and calls for public comment, drafting and submitting well-researched and compelling formal submissions.
  • Manage the budget for government affairs activities, including lobbying expenses, trade association memberships, and political contributions, ensuring efficient use of resources.
  • Act as a key advisor during crisis situations involving government entities, helping to manage communications and navigate the political and regulatory dimensions of the issue.
  • Prepare and manage the submission of necessary regulatory reports and filings to ensure the organization remains in good standing with all relevant government agencies.
  • Establish and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure the effectiveness of government relations strategies and advocacy campaigns.
  • Champion the organization's corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives with government partners to enhance public-private partnerships and build community trust.
