Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Monitor, track, and analyze legislative proposals and regulatory changes at the local, state, and federal levels to determine their potential impact on the organization.
  • Develop and execute comprehensive, multi-faceted government affairs strategies to proactively shape public policy and advocate for the organization's key priorities.
  • Cultivate and maintain strong, bipartisan relationships with elected officials, legislative staff, agency personnel, and other key stakeholders to ensure access and open communication.
  • Represent the organization before legislative bodies and regulatory agencies, delivering compelling oral testimony, formal comments, and presentations.
  • Draft, review, and edit a wide range of advocacy materials, including position papers, legislative summaries, talking points, and briefing documents for senior leadership.
  • Advise executive leadership and internal business units on complex political, legislative, and regulatory issues, providing strategic counsel and actionable recommendations.
  • Build and lead broad coalitions with industry partners, trade associations, non-profits, and other allied groups to amplify advocacy efforts and achieve shared policy goals.
  • Manage the organization's engagement with external government affairs consultants and lobbyists, ensuring their activities are aligned with strategic objectives and compliance standards.
  • Plan and execute "lobby days," facility tours, and other direct engagement events to educate policymakers and their staff about the organization's work and community impact.
  • Identify and interpret political trends, election outcomes, and shifts in the policy landscape to anticipate future challenges and opportunities for the organization.
  • Ensure all lobbying and political activities are conducted in strict compliance with all relevant ethics laws and reporting requirements, such as the Lobbying Disclosure Act (LDA).
  • Manage the strategy, administration, and compliance of the organization's Political Action Committee (PAC), including fundraising and disbursement planning.
  • Collaborate closely with the legal and communications departments to ensure consistent messaging and a unified public posture on all policy-related matters.
  • Prepare and disseminate regular internal updates, newsletters, and reports to keep internal stakeholders informed of relevant government affairs activities and legislative developments.
  • Act as a primary point of contact for inquiries from government offices, responding in a timely and professional manner.
  • Research and analyze complex policy issues, leveraging data and case studies to build a strong, evidence-based foundation for advocacy positions.
  • Develop a comprehensive grassroots advocacy program to mobilize employees, customers, or members in support of key legislative initiatives.
