Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Expertly operate real-time character generator (CG) systems, such as Ross Xpression, ChyronHego, or Vizrt, to display dynamic on-air graphics during live and pre-recorded broadcasts.
- Build, prepare, and meticulously organize all graphic elements for daily productions, including lower-thirds, full-screen pages, over-the-shoulder graphics, and score bugs.
- Collaborate directly with producers and directors in a dynamic control room environment to insert graphics accurately and on cue, responding instantly to live show changes.
- Perform rigorous quality control checks on all graphics prior to air, verifying spelling, grammar, data integrity, and adherence to brand guidelines.
- Manage and recall complex graphic templates, animations, and pre-built elements from the graphics library throughout a fast-paced broadcast.
- Swiftly troubleshoot and resolve technical issues related to graphics hardware, software, and data feeds under the pressure of a live production.
- Integrate and manage real-time data feeds (e.g., sports scores, financial data, election results, social media comments) into on-air graphic templates.
- Create and modify static and motion graphic templates using Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator) to fulfill immediate, daily production requirements.
- Maintain the organization, structure, and integrity of the graphics server, including archiving old show assets and managing a logical file system.
- Actively participate in daily production meetings, rundowns, and pre-show rehearsals to fully understand the show's content and graphic requirements.
- Execute complex, multi-layered graphic sequences and transitions in perfect synchronization with director cues and on-screen action.
- Uphold and enforce the network's strict brand identity, style guides, and broadcast technical standards across all created and displayed graphics.
- Work closely with the art department and motion graphics team to successfully implement new graphic packages, updates, and seasonal branding elements.
- Maintain clear, concise, and professional communication with the entire control room team (Director, Technical Director, Producer) during high-pressure situations.
- Operate and manage telestrator systems for real-time analysis during sports, news, and weather segments, working in tandem with on-air talent.
- Manage the ingest, formatting, and playback of video clips and still images that are integrated within the broadcast graphics system.
Secondary Functions
- Assist in the training and mentoring of new operators, production assistants, and freelancers on the graphics workflow, systems, and best practices.
- Provide constructive feedback to engineering and design teams on system performance, user interface improvements, and potential workflow enhancements.
- Support the creation and versioning of graphics for digital and social media platforms, ensuring brand consistency beyond the linear broadcast.
- Contribute to the documentation of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and quick-reference guides for the graphics department.

Required Skills & Competencies
Hard Skills (Technical)
- Deep proficiency with at least one major broadcast graphics platform (Ross Xpression, ChyronHego, or Vizrt Trio).
- Strong working knowledge of the Adobe Creative Suite, particularly Photoshop for image creation/editing and Illustrator for vector assets.
- Solid understanding of broadcast video standards, including resolutions (HD/4K), frame rates, aspect ratios, and signal flow.
- Experience with integrating real-time data into graphics using protocols like XML, JSON, or database connections (ODBC).
- Familiarity with the operational dynamics of a live production control room environment.
- Knowledge of playout automation systems and how they interact with graphics systems.
