Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Interpret complex work orders, blueprints, and design proofs to understand project scope, material requirements, and placement specifications.
  • Execute the complete surface preparation process, including cleaning, degreasing, sanding, and applying primers to ensure optimal adhesion and a flawless finish.
  • Expertly apply large-format printed vinyl graphics and cut vinyl lettering to a diverse range of substrates, including vehicles of all sizes, windows, walls, and signage.
  • Perform high-quality custom paint jobs using spray guns, airbrushes, and traditional brush techniques, ensuring even coverage and adherence to design standards.
  • Precisely mix paints and coatings to match specific Pantone, RAL, or custom color specifications, maintaining strict color consistency across all project components.
  • Operate and maintain large-format digital printers, vinyl plotters, and lamination equipment, troubleshooting minor mechanical issues as they arise.
  • Master the art of "weeding" and masking intricate vinyl designs in preparation for application, demonstrating exceptional dexterity and patience.
  • Apply vehicle wraps to a variety of commercial and personal vehicles, skillfully navigating complex curves, seams, and recessed areas to create a seamless, paint-like finish.
  • Conduct thorough quality control inspections at every stage of the process, from material inspection to final application, identifying and rectifying any imperfections.
  • Collaborate directly with graphic designers to provide feedback on the feasibility of designs for physical application, suggesting adjustments to improve final outcomes.
  • Manage and maintain an organized inventory of vinyl, paints, inks, and other application supplies, placing orders as needed to avoid production delays.
  • Ensure all work is performed in compliance with company and industry safety standards, including the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and ventilation systems.
  • Perform final finishing tasks such as trimming excess material, heat-sealing edges, and cleaning the finished product for client delivery or presentation.
  • Travel to and perform on-site installations at client locations, representing the company professionally and ensuring customer satisfaction with the final product.
  • Meticulously document project details, material usage, and time spent on tasks for accurate job costing and future reference.
  • Repair or remove existing graphics and paint, utilizing appropriate tools and chemicals while carefully preserving the integrity of the underlying surface.
  • Stay current with emerging materials, application tools, and industry best practices by attending workshops, trade shows, and engaging in continuous learning.
  • Assemble and disassemble signage and display components, ensuring structural integrity and correct graphic alignment.
  • Skillfully apply specialized finishes, such as matte, gloss, metallic, and textured coatings, to achieve specific aesthetic effects as required by the design.
  • Communicate effectively with project managers and team members to provide status updates, report challenges, and coordinate workflow for multi-stage projects.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment in the production bay, shop, or on-site location.

Required Skills & Competencies

Hard Skills (Technical)

  • Mastery of vinyl application techniques, including wet and dry methods for complex curves, rivets, and corrugated surfaces.
  • High proficiency with HVLP (High Volume Low Pressure) spray guns, airbrushes, and other professional painting equipment.
  • Deep knowledge of color theory and paint mixing systems for accurate Pantone and custom color matching.
  • Expertise in operating and performing routine maintenance on large-format printers (e.g., HP Latex, Epson), vinyl cutters/plotters (e.g., Graphtec, Roland), and laminators.
  • Strong practical understanding of various material properties, including cast vs. calendared vinyl, adhesives, and substrates (e.g., aluminum, acrylic, PVC, MDO).
  • Ability to read and accurately interpret technical drawings, schematics, and digital design proofs.
  • Proficiency with hand tools, power tools, and specialized installation tools like squeegees, heat guns, and trimming knives.
  • Familiarity with design software such as Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop for reviewing files and making minor production adjustments.
  • Experience in surface preparation, including chemical cleaning, sanding, and priming for various materials.
  • 3M, Avery Dennison, or other industry-recognized vehicle wrap installation certification is a significant asset.

Educational Background
