- Perform rigorous in-process quality checks at designated intervals on the production line, monitoring for variations in color, print registration, and overall quality.
- Utilize specialized inspection equipment, including spectrophotometers, densitometers, and video web viewers (like AVT systems), to objectively measure print attributes.
- Meticulously identify and classify print defects such as hazing, mottle, pinholes, doctor blade streaks, and misregistration, documenting their location and severity.
- Execute detailed visual comparisons of production samples against approved customer proofs and color standards under controlled lighting conditions.
- Maintain accurate and thorough quality control records, including inspection reports, non-conformance logs, and data entry into the quality management system (QMS).
- Communicate effectively and immediately with Press Operators and Production Supervisors regarding any quality deviations or non-conforming material to facilitate corrective actions.
- Make critical decisions to approve or reject printed rolls based on established quality standards and customer specifications, placing non-conforming material on hold.
- Verify the accuracy and readability of barcodes, UPCs, and other variable data elements using scanners and verification equipment.
- Prepare and label retained samples from each production run for archival purposes and future reference, ensuring proper traceability.
- Inspect raw materials, including substrates and inks, upon receipt to ensure they meet the required specifications before entering the production process.
- Monitor and verify press-side operational parameters that impact quality, such as ink viscosity, pH levels, and drying temperatures.
- Participate in the investigation of customer complaints by retrieving and re-evaluating retained samples and production quality records.
- Ensure that all printed output meets safety and regulatory requirements for the specific product, especially within food and pharmaceutical packaging.
- Calibrate and maintain inspection equipment to ensure its accuracy and reliability, troubleshooting minor issues as they arise.
