Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

Execute daily planting, seeding, and transplanting of seedlings, plugs, and cuttings according to detailed propagation schedules and production plans.
Diligently monitor and maintain optimal environmental conditions within the greenhouse, including temperature, humidity, and light levels, by operating both manual and automated control systems.
Systematically implement integrated pest management (IPM) strategies, which includes scouting for pests and diseases, releasing beneficial insects, and applying organic or chemical treatments as directed.
Perform daily watering and fertilization routines for a diverse range of plant species, ensuring precise moisture levels and nutrient delivery based on specific plant needs and growth stages.
Conduct regular plant maintenance tasks such as pruning, pinching, de-leafing, and trellising to promote healthy, vigorous growth and maximize flower or fruit production.
Skillfully prepare soil and various growing media, including mixing custom blends to specification, sterilizing materials, and efficiently filling pots, trays, and flats.
Harvest plants, flowers, fruits, or vegetables at their peak, handling all produce with exceptional care to maintain quality, freshness, and minimize post-harvest loss.
Operate and perform routine preventative maintenance on essential greenhouse equipment, such as irrigation systems, foggers, ventilation fans, shade cloths, and heating units.
Maintain accurate and detailed records of plant growth, environmental data, and applied treatments to track crop progress and contribute to operational analysis.
Prepare and organize plants for commercial sale or shipment, which involves cleaning, tagging, sleeving, and carefully packing orders to meet stringent customer specifications.
Ensure the entire greenhouse facility and surrounding work areas are kept clean, organized, and safe by sweeping floors, sanitizing benches, and properly disposing of plant waste.
Assist senior staff with the propagation of plants through various methods, including taking cuttings, grafting, and division, under careful supervision.
Proactively monitor inventory levels of essential supplies like pots, soil, fertilizers, and tags, and promptly report replenishment needs to the Greenhouse Manager.
Adhere strictly to all company and industry health and safety protocols, including the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) when handling chemicals or operating machinery.
Assist with research-related tasks within a research greenhouse setting, such as precise data collection, plant measurements, and the implementation of experimental protocols.
Spacing plants on benches and floors to ensure adequate light exposure and air circulation, preventing disease and promoting uniform growth across the crop.
Consolidate plant material and prepare growing areas for new crops, ensuring a clean and efficient transition between production cycles.
Identify and report any signs of plant stress, disease, or nutrient deficiency to the Head Grower for timely intervention and diagnosis.
Participate in the assembly and movement of greenhouse structures, benches, and irrigation lines as needed for operational adjustments or expansion.
Grade and sort plants based on quality, size, and maturity to ensure consistent and high-quality product batches for sale or further use.

Secondary Functions

Assist in the setup and teardown of seasonal displays or experimental plots within the greenhouse facility.
Provide friendly, basic support to customers or visitors, answering general questions about plant care and helping them locate specific plant varieties.
Support the team with periodic inventory counts and seasonal stock-taking of both plant material and hard goods like pots and trays.
Contribute to general facility upkeep, which may include performing minor repairs to benches, irrigation lines, or greenhouse coverings.
Actively participate in team meetings and ongoing training sessions to stay current on horticultural best practices, new techniques, and safety procedures.
