As a key member of our agronomy team, you will be responsible for the day-to-day maintenance and presentation of the golf course, directly impacting playability and aesthetic appeal.

Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Execute daily mowing routines for greens, tees, fairways, and roughs using a variety of specialized walk-behind and riding mowers.
  • Meticulously rake, edge, and prepare sand bunkers to ensure consistent texture and playability for all levels of golfers.
  • Perform precise course setup duties, including changing hole locations, moving tee markers, and preparing the course for daily play and special tournaments.
  • Operate and maintain the irrigation system, performing sprinkler head repairs, adjustments, and critical hand-watering of sensitive turf areas as needed.
  • Apply fertilizers, pesticides, and other turf care products accurately and safely under the supervision of a licensed applicator.
  • Execute essential cultural practices such as aerification, topdressing, verticutting, and overseeding to promote turf health and resilience.
  • Operate specialized heavy and light turf equipment, including aerators, tractors, loaders, and utility vehicles, with a paramount focus on safety protocols.
  • Perform sodding and seeding of turf areas to repair damage from play or stress, ensuring consistent turf coverage across the course.
  • Maintain the integrity and aesthetics of the course by trimming, edging, and weeding around bunkers, cart paths, and landscaping beds.
  • Monitor turfgrass for early signs of disease, insect pressure, or environmental stress and promptly report findings to the Assistant Superintendent.
  • Assist in the maintenance and repair of drainage systems to ensure proper water management and prevent turf damage during wet conditions.
  • Maintain and thoroughly clean all maintenance equipment after use, reporting any mechanical issues or necessary repairs to the Equipment Manager.
  • Perform general landscaping duties, including planting, pruning, and mulching of trees, shrubs, and ornamental flower beds to enhance the property's beauty.
  • Ensure a clean and professional appearance of the entire course by diligently removing debris, fallen leaves, trash, and other obstructions.
  • Assist with small-scale construction, renovation, and cart path repair projects as directed by golf course management.
  • Calibrate spreaders and sprayers to guarantee precise and efficient application of granular and liquid turf care products.
  • Maintain water hazards and surrounding areas, managing aquatic vegetation and shoreline integrity to preserve their strategic and aesthetic value.
  • Adhere strictly to all company safety policies, procedures, and personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements at all times.
  • Methodically fill divots on tees and fairways and repair ball marks on greens to maintain a smooth and true playing surface.
  • Communicate effectively with team members and supervisors regarding daily assignments, course conditions, and project progress.
  • Operate string trimmers and blowers to maintain fine details and cleanliness around the entire property, including buildings and fences.
  • Participate in frost delay procedures and winter snow removal operations to protect the course and ensure facility access and safety.

Secondary Functions

  • Support in the execution of small-scale course construction and renovation projects.
  • Contribute to the club's environmental stewardship and sustainability programs.
  • Collaborate with the pro shop and event staff to ensure course setup meets tournament and event specifications.
  • Participate in daily team meetings and planning sessions to coordinate maintenance activities.

Required Skills & Competencies

Hard Skills (Technical)

  • Proficiency in operating various types of turf maintenance equipment, including greensmowers, fairway mowers, and tractors.
  • Foundational knowledge of turfgrass management principles and agronomic practices.
  • Basic understanding of irrigation systems, including the ability to perform minor repairs and adjustments.
  • Familiarity with the safe handling and application of fertilizers, herbicides, and pesticides.
  • Basic mechanical aptitude for performing routine preventative maintenance on equipment.
  • Ability to safely operate power tools, utility vehicles, and other landscape equipment.

Soft Skills

  • Exceptional attention to detail and a strong commitment to maintaining high-quality standards.
  • Punctuality and reliability with the ability to work early morning hours, weekends, and holidays as required by the season.

Education & Experience

Educational Background

Minimum Education:

  • High School Diploma or GED.

Preferred Education:

  • Certificate or Associate's Degree in Turfgrass Management or a related field.

Relevant Fields of Study:

  • Turfgrass Science
  • Horticulture
  • Agronomy

Experience Requirements

Typical Experience Range: 1-3 years of experience in golf course maintenance, sports turf management, or a related professional landscaping field.

Preferred: Experience working on a private, semi-private, or high-end resort golf course is highly desirable.
