Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Conceptualize, develop, and execute original designs for a wide range of greeting card categories, including seasonal holidays, everyday occasions, and specialized niches.
  • Create compelling and high-quality illustrations, lettering, and typographic layouts using both digital tools (Adobe Creative Suite, Procreate) and traditional media (watercolor, gouache, ink).
  • Generate or collaborate on fresh, authentic, and emotionally resonant editorial copy and sentiments that perfectly complement the card's visual design.
  • Research and analyze market trends, competitor products, and consumer insights to ensure designs are relevant, innovative, and commercially viable.
  • Develop comprehensive design concepts and present them effectively to creative directors, art directors, or clients for review and feedback.
  • Manage multiple design projects simultaneously, adhering to strict production calendars and meeting all deadlines from initial concept to final file delivery.
  • Prepare flawless, print-ready mechanical files for production, demonstrating a strong understanding of CMYK/Pantone color spaces, die-lines, bleed, and other print specifications.
  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional partners, including product managers, copywriters, and production teams, to ensure a cohesive and successful final product.
  • Maintain and organize a digital asset library of fonts, illustrations, patterns, and design templates for efficient workflow and brand consistency.
  • Review and meticulously proof digital and physical proofs at various stages of production to ensure color accuracy, print quality, and overall excellence.
  • Create physical mock-ups and prototypes to visualize card construction, special finishes (like foil or embossing), and overall product feel.
  • Adapt and reformat existing artwork for different product types, such as gift wrap, stationery sets, notepads, and digital e-cards.
  • Stay current with advancements in printing techniques, paper stocks, finishing processes, and embellishments to introduce new and exciting features to the product line.
  • Participate actively in brainstorming sessions and creative workshops to contribute to the overall direction of new product collections.
  • Develop complete product lines or collections that share a cohesive theme, color palette, and artistic style for specific seasons or holidays.
  • Photograph and style finished products for use in e-commerce listings, social media marketing, and digital portfolios.
  • Ensure all designs adhere to established brand identity guidelines, maintaining a consistent look and feel across all products.
  • Incorporate feedback from critiques and reviews into design revisions with a positive and collaborative attitude.
  • Source and manage relationships with external vendors, such as printers, paper suppliers, and embellishment manufacturers.
  • For entrepreneurial roles, manage inventory levels, order fulfillment, and customer service inquiries related to custom design requests.

  • Illustration & Hand-Lettering: Strong, demonstrable skills in either digital (Procreate, Fresco) or traditional illustration and hand-lettering.
  • Print Production Knowledge: Deep understanding of the pre-press process, including CMYK vs. RGB, Pantone matching, bleed, trim, and file setup for various print methods (digital, offset, letterpress).
