Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Direct and oversee all aspects of store operations, including sales, profitability, and customer service, to achieve and exceed business plan objectives.
  • Drive a customer-first culture by empowering associates to resolve issues and consistently deliver an exceptional shopping experience.
  • Manage the store’s financial performance, including budgeting, P&L analysis, labor cost control, and expense management.
  • Recruit, interview, hire, train, and mentor a high-performing team of department managers and store associates.
  • Lead the implementation of all merchandising plans, promotional activities, and marketing campaigns to maximize sales and customer engagement.
  • Ensure the store is consistently clean, well-organized, and fully stocked, adhering to all company presentation and brand standards.
  • Champion and enforce all food safety, sanitation, and workplace safety policies and procedures to meet or exceed federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Develop effective weekly labor schedules for all departments to optimize productivity, meet customer traffic demands, and control wage expenses.
  • Conduct regular performance evaluations, provide ongoing coaching and constructive feedback, and create clear development paths for team members.
  • Manage store inventory and ordering processes to optimize stock levels, minimize out-of-stocks, and control product shrink.
  • Implement and monitor comprehensive loss prevention and asset protection strategies to reduce theft and damage.
  • Lead daily team huddles and weekly management meetings to communicate goals, celebrate successes, and address operational challenges.
  • Analyze sales data, market trends, and customer feedback to identify opportunities for growth and operational improvement.
  • Oversee the proper functioning, maintenance, and security of all store equipment, facilities, and physical assets.
  • Foster a positive, inclusive, and collaborative work environment that promotes high associate morale, engagement, and retention.
  • Resolve escalated customer complaints and concerns with professionalism and a sense of urgency, turning challenges into positive experiences.

Required Skills & Competencies

  • Inventory Control Systems: Proficiency in using software and processes for ordering, receiving, and managing stock to control shrink.

  • Retail Point of Sale (POS) Systems: Familiarity with the operational and reporting functions of modern POS systems.
  • Food Safety & Sanitation: Certification (e.g., ServSafe Manager) and practical knowledge of health department standards.
  • Merchandising & Planogram Execution: Skill in implementing visual merchandising standards and executing corporate planograms effectively.
  • Data Analysis: Ability to interpret sales reports, customer data, and operational metrics to make informed decisions.

Education & Experience

Educational Background

Minimum Education:

Experience Requirements

Typical Experience Range:

  • 3-5+ years of progressive management experience in a retail environment, including at least 1-2 years as an Assistant Store Manager or a high-volume Department Manager.

Preferred:

  • Prior experience as a Store Manager or Assistant Store Manager in a high-volume grocery, supermarket, or big-box retail setting is strongly preferred.
