Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Receive, unload, and break down product deliveries from trucks, using equipment like pallet jacks and U-boats to safely transport goods to the sales floor or backroom storage.
  • Meticulously stock shelves, coolers, freezers, and promotional displays with products, ensuring items are placed in their designated locations according to the store's planogram.
  • Perform product rotation using the First In, First Out (FIFO) method to ensure product freshness, minimize waste, and keep older stock at the front of the shelf.
  • Proactively monitor shelves and displays for low stock levels, and replenish products from the backroom inventory to ensure consistent product availability for customers.
  • Maintain the visual presentation of the aisles by "facing" products, ensuring all labels are front-facing, organized, and neat to create a clean and shoppable environment.
  • Assist in building and maintaining creative and effective promotional and seasonal displays to drive sales and highlight key products.
  • Engage with customers in a friendly and professional manner, proactively offering assistance, answering questions about product location, and providing information.
  • Conduct regular quality checks on products, removing any damaged, expired, or subpar items from the shelves according to company policy.
  • Ensure accurate pricing and signage for all products, performing price checks and replacing missing or incorrect shelf tags as needed.
  • Maintain a clean and safe shopping environment by promptly cleaning up spills, removing empty boxes and debris from the aisles, and adhering to all safety procedures.
  • Operate and handle stocking equipment, such as box cutters, hand trucks, and pallet jacks, in a safe and responsible manner.
  • Assist with regular inventory counts (cycle counts) to help maintain accurate records of on-hand product and identify discrepancies.
  • Support the receiving team by verifying shipment contents against invoices or purchase orders to ensure accuracy of deliveries.
  • Communicate effectively with team leaders and department managers regarding out-of-stock items, customer requests, and any issues on the sales floor.
  • Develop a strong knowledge of the products within the grocery department to better assist customers with their inquiries and provide recommendations.

Secondary Functions

  • Provide backup support to other departments, such as the front end (bagging) or produce, during peak business hours or when short-staffed.
  • Participate in team meetings and training sessions to stay informed about new products, store policies, and safety updates.
  • Assist in the training and onboarding of new team members, sharing knowledge of stocking procedures, store layout, and customer service standards.
  • Uphold all food safety and sanitation standards, particularly when handling products for refrigerated or frozen sections.
