Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Perform comprehensive turf management duties, including mowing, edging, line trimming, and blowing to maintain a neat and professional appearance across all lawn areas.
- Execute seasonal planting schedules for annuals, perennials, shrubs, and trees to enhance landscape aesthetics and ensure plant health.
- Operate a wide range of grounds maintenance equipment, such as riding mowers, push mowers, tractors, aerators, leaf blowers, and snow removal machinery, ensuring safe and effective use.
- Maintain and repair irrigation systems, including sprinklers, valves, and controllers, to ensure efficient water distribution and conservation.
- Implement integrated pest management programs by identifying, diagnosing, and treating turf, tree, and plant diseases and pest infestations.
- Apply fertilizers, herbicides, and pesticides in a safe, timely, and effective manner, adhering to all state and federal regulations and maintaining application records.
- Perform seasonal clean-up tasks, including leaf collection and removal in the fall and storm debris clean-up as needed throughout the year.
- Conduct regular pruning of trees, hedges, and shrubs to promote healthy growth, ensure safety, and maintain desired shapes.
- Manage winter weather conditions by performing snow and ice removal from walkways, parking lots, and entryways using plows, snow blowers, and chemical treatments.
- Maintain the cleanliness and safety of all outdoor areas by regularly collecting and disposing of trash, debris, and litter.
- Prepare and maintain athletic fields for sporting events, including lining fields, dragging infields, and setting up goals or bases.
- Perform routine preventative maintenance and minor repairs on all groundskeeping tools and power equipment to ensure operational readiness and longevity.
- Monitor the overall health of the landscape, proactively identifying issues such as soil erosion, drainage problems, or plant stress.
- Install and maintain landscape features, such as mulch beds, rock gardens, and decorative borders, according to design plans.
- Assist in the planning and execution of landscape renovation and construction projects, including grading, seeding, and sodding.
- Ensure all groundskeeping activities are conducted in compliance with organizational safety protocols and environmental policies.
- Operate light-to-medium-duty trucks and trailers for transporting equipment, materials, and debris across the property.
- Maintain hardscape surfaces, including pathways, patios, and parking areas, by performing pressure washing and minor repairs.
- Inspect outdoor structures like fences, benches, and retaining walls for damage and perform necessary repairs or report issues to a supervisor.
- Manage inventory of grounds-related supplies, such as seeds, fertilizer, fuel, and tools, and report needs for reordering.
Secondary Functions

- Provide support for outdoor events by assisting with setup and takedown of tents, chairs, and other equipment.

Required Skills & Competencies
Hard Skills (Technical)
- Proficiency in operating commercial-grade landscaping equipment, including zero-turn mowers, tractors, and aerators.
- In-depth knowledge of horticultural practices, including planting, pruning, and plant identification.
- Experience with the operation, maintenance, and repair of manual and automated irrigation systems.
- Ability to safely operate snow removal equipment, such as plows, snow blowers, and salt spreaders.
- Knowledge of turfgrass management techniques, including fertilization, aeration, and overseeding.
- Certified or able to become certified in the safe application of pesticides and herbicides.
- Basic mechanical skills for performing routine maintenance and minor repairs on small engines and equipment.
- Understanding of proper soil management, including testing, amending, and grading.
- Experience in maintaining athletic fields and understanding their specific requirements.
